Update: following the announcement of 25 members of the Rivers state Houae of Assembly rumour to be loyal to Nyesom Wike decamped to APC, governor Sim Fubara has ŕemoved the speaker and replaced him with a new speaker and the attorney general and Secretary to state government were also changed.

The political game has just started today in Rivers State as the state executive council approved a proposed N800 billion 2024 budget tagged Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation and Continuity.

Earlier in the day, Governor Sim Fubara called for an emergency meeting of the state executive council after 27 Sate House of Assembly members rumour to be loyal to Nyesom Wike announced their defection from PDP to APC.

Tudget is to be sent to the Rivers State House of Assembly for approval.

Nigerians are talking about the decision of the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Olufemi Olaleye to proceed to the Court of Appeal seeking to rescind the judgement of his conviction on r**e by a lower court.

Channels Television reports that Dr. Olaleye was in October sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for ra**ng his wife’s niece who was a teenager when the defilement happened.

In the appeal filed through his lawyer Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), on November 24, 2023, Olaleye highlighted 35 grounds of appeal against the judgement of the lower court, the media reported.

The Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Mustapha, has commended the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on a range of its telecom consumer protection initiatives, including the recent Village Square Dialogue (VSD), which held at the weekend in Yola, Adamawa State.

Kakakin Adamawa, Prof. Abubakar Tahir, who represented Lamido Adamawa at the Consumer Conversation programme of the Commission with the theme: “Know Your Rights as Telecom Consumers” in Yola, said the event marked a privilege for individual telecom consumers and businesses in the state to ask questions and get face-to-face response from the regulator on telecom-related issues.

President Bola Tinubu on Friday in Kaduna said Nigeria and the neighbouring countries in the Lake Chad region must display courage in reforming their military doctrine and practices.

The President noted that the change in tactics had become necessary because the countries in the region are battling a ‘mobile and elusive irregular force’ that disregards established rules of warfare.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Senior Course 45 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, the President pointed out that the adversaries facing countries in the sub-region are not conventional armies engaging in traditional battlefield warfare.

Akpabio, Abbas, Nweke, for public presentation of Omoniyi Ibietan’s book on Cyber Politics

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; a former Minister of Information and Communication, Frank Nweke Jr., are among the dignitaries expected at the Tuesday, July 25 public presentation of a book written by Omoniyi Ibietan, the head of media relations at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

While Mr Akpabio will serve as the special guest of honour at the event scheduled for the main auditorium of the Communications and Digital Economy Complex, Mbora District, Abuja, Mr Abbas will attend the ceremony as the guest of honour.

Mr Nweke, the Enugu State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the last elections, will chair the event. The book's author was Mr Nweke’s special assistant on media during his ministerial term.

NASENI, AFIT Strengthen Ties On AAVDI, Made-in- Nigeria Helicopter

The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, National Agency for Science and Engineering (NASENI) Dr. Bashir Gwandu has called for stronger collaboration with the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, Kaduna State for the smooth take-off of the permanent site of Aeronautics and Air Vehicle Development Institute (AAVDI), an Institute under NASENI.

He said it was an honour and he looked forward to strengthening ties with NASENI to develop AADVI and also fast track the on-going work on made-in-Nigeria helicopter. He promised to work with NASENI and asked that AFIT staff should be part of trainings for unskilled talents such as welding, etc. “I am of the opinion that the AFIT staff should be part of the NASENI trainings to gain knowledge from the trainings.”

Dr. Gwandu informed him that he was barely two months on the job since his appointment and that he has been visiting NASENI Institutes to see what some of them are doing. “Surely, our work with the Air Force and the military establishment are areas that I want to focus on because there are some of our key projects that AFIT is championing and that cooperation is very important to us in particular and to the country.”

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 28 years old Twitter user, Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe for posting hateful content calculated to incite ethnic violence in the country via his Twitter account on May 18, 2023.
