Nnamdi Kanu And His Trials By Ordeal

By Aloy Ejimakor

May 28, 2023 | EASTERN PILOT

It’s not acceptable, even by the lowest standards of fairness, that it took the Court of Appeal only two weeks to undo a sound judgment that discharged Nnamdi Kanu from his long and tortuous seven years of ordeal with the criminal justice system in Nigeria.

Recall that Kanu was first arrested and charged in 2015 and the judgment discharging him came in 2022.

Recall also that it is the same Court that discharged Kanu that quickly turned around to stay (or invalidate) its own judgment. In effect, the Court sat on appeal over its own judgment and took only *two weeks to reverse itself.

Does that sound proper in a judicial system that takes a year or more to decide who won an election and many more to decide regular cases?

And that it is now going to take almost a year for the Supreme Court to review what the Court of Appeal had done makes it profoundly more unfair.

Another grave injustice of the matter that cannot be overlooked is that the judgment was already admittedly and publicly disobeyed (a grave illegality) by the government before it filed the application that got the Court of Appeal to judicially stay the judgment.

So, in effect, the stay of ex*****on magically pedaled backwards to bestow judicial legality on executive illegality.

Additionally, it will be recalled that - on 26th October 2022 - the Federal High Court had also declared Nnamdi Kanu’s extraordinary rendition and subsequent (plus continued) detention in Abuja as flagrant violations of the Constitution.

IPOB PRESS RELEASE

May 15, 2023 | EASTERN PILOT

We the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU, a prisoner of conscience, unequivocally refute the concocted lies and falsehood which the Nigeria Government and it's Security Agencies are peddling to the effect that the criminals and kidnappers with whom the Nigerian DSS and Police have hither to been working together whom they have now eliminated to cover their evil tracks in Anambra State are operatives of ESN and IPOB members. That claim is nothing but the usual lie and propaganda against IPOB and ESN being propagated by a morally bankrupt and shameless Nigerian Security apparatus to discredit our genuine struggle for Self Determination in the International community.

The criminal gang led by Odumodu, who was murdered by the Nigeria Security Agents recently in Anambra State, were not IPOB members nor ESN Operatives. In fact, the murdered criminals were among the names that one of our leaders, Mazi Chinasa Nworu, publicly announced as among the criminals who in collaboration with the Nigerian DSS were being used to impersonate ESN operatives while tormenting our people during one of his Radio Biafra broadcast last month. It is on that very broadcast that he declared them wanted and promised a reward for anyone who can give tips on how to arrest and detain them.

09/05/2023

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the Great and Indefatigable Leader, Mazi Nnamdi KANU wish to remind Biafrans, friends of Biafra, and lovers of Biafra freedom across the world that 30th of May 2023 is sacrosanct and every Biafran must remember and honour those who died for us to live.

We remember those who died in the Nigeria genocidal war against Biafra, the mothers and fathers bombed in the market places, hospitals, churches, and those children that the Nigeria government starved to their early death. We can not forget them till eternity.

We also remember the victims of the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and Sahara desert who died on the way to Europe in an attempt to escape the draconian and wicked economic and political policies against Biafrans by the Nigeria State. We must remember those who died in slave chains and in tortures from Slave Masters hands, those thrown over board, and those that preferred death than to be taken as slaves. We remember them all.

We remember our eternal leader Ikemba Nnewi Dikedioranma DIM Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, General Philip Efiong, Dr Frank Opigo Okon ko Ndem, Col. Achzie, Bruce Mayrock, Christian Aid workers, Biafra Aid Volunteers, and many others whose contribution during Biafra the Nigerian genocide against Biafrans who are the reason why we are alive today. We must remember; WE REMEMBER ALL!

We remember IPOB members who were brutally murdered during peaceful protests and rallies, those murdered in Aba, Onitsha, Asaba, Igweocha, Enugu, Nkpor, Ebonyi in cold blood by murderous Nigeria Army at the resident of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU in 2017. We remember our Ikonso and other gallant ESN volunteers who were murdered by Nigeria State because they were defending our land against State sponsored terrorism. We also remember His Majesty and Lolo Sally Isreal Okwu Kanu, whose lives were cut short from the shocks they received when the Nigeria Army invaded, murdered, and desecrated their Royal Palace. We must remember; WE MUST REMEMBER THEM!

This year's event will be special, and the one day sit-at-home in Biafraland will be total and will be from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on May 30, 2023. Every economic, social, religious, and political activity in Biafraland will be suspended, with the exception of hospitals, doctors, nurses, ambulances, and other health workers. All other people and workplaces are advised to sit at home.

Once again only hospitals and health workers are free to open and go about on May 30, 2023 (Biafra Heroes and Heroines Rememberance Day) to take care of our ones and the pregnant mothers and all other sectors including police stations should be under locks and keys within Biafra territory. We call on industries, companies, transport companies(air, land, and sea) hotels, schools, and churches to shut down in honor of our heroes and heroines. Also, Biafrans in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria are encouraged to join the seat at home order on that day its only one day. We, therefore, advise Biafrans and other residents in Biafra territory to avoid endangering their lives or their businesses by obeying the sit-at-home order from IPOB leadership.

Wherever our people are or gathered on that day, they must pray with lighted candles and must observe 3 minutes of silence immediately at 12 noon. Finally, the only joy and rest to appease our fallen heroes and heroines is Biafra restoration. So, "we must continue."

28/04/2023

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), on Thursday, criticised the Supreme Court over adjournment of the hearing of the case involving the acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

HURIWA also alleged that the Federal Government’s fresh nine new grounds of appeal against Kanu was incredibly criminal. Besides, HURIWA accused President Muhammadu Buhari of creating the spectacular security crises in Igboland by his arbitrary ex*****on of draconian military action against perceived members of IPOB, stressing that military actions since Nnamdi Kanu was first arrested has undermined peace, economic growth and have created security nightmares in South-Eastern States.

HURIWA asked President Muhammadu Buhari to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu immediately and unconditionally in compliance with an extant judgment of the Court of Appeal which freed Nnamdi Kanu.

HURIWA, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, said the perpetual adjournment of the case of the IPOB leader by the courts since mid-2021 is a tactic by the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to perpetually deny Kanu of his fundamental right to freedom.

The group called on the United Nations Human Rights Council to visit to Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services to ascertain the health condition of Nnamdi Kanu and hundreds of other detainees including those who have disappeared without trace since Muhammadu Buhari’s civilian junta came on board in 2015.

At the resumed hearing on Thursday, counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), informed the court of his motions seeking for bail of his client and another seeking for his transfer to Kuje Correctional Center to get proper medical attention, citing his failing health at the custody of the DSS.

The court subsequently fixed May 11 for a hearing on the pending motion and the main appeal.

Emergency: Nigeria Secret Police Plans To Infect Kanu With Tuberculosis

APRIL 18 , 2023 | EASTERN PILOT

Report By: Chinedu Aroh

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that there are plans to infect him with tuberculosis. Kanu is being detained at the custody of the Department of State Services in Abuja over alleged running a proscribed group, jumping bail in 2017 and treason. He was illegally kidnapped in Kenya by the Nigerian agents and brought to Nigeria in 2021 without any legal process of extridiction. Nigeria breached international law crime of extraordinary rendition on Kanu and despite court rulings discharging him, the federal government has refused to release him disobeying the orders of the court.
Kanu made the allegation of exposing him to the dreaded bacteria infection through his special counsel, Barr Aloy Ejimakor. Ejimakor tweeted on Monday afternoon that, “Today, my associate, Barr Mandela, met with Onyendu at the DSS. “He reports that MNK directed me to make it public that he had an episode of profuse nose-bleed yesterday & that the DSS has transferred a detainee diagnosed with tuberculosis to his cell block. This is ominous.”

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infection that usually attacks human lungs. It can also spread to other parts of the body, like brain and spine, and caused Mycobacterium tuberculosis, according to Webmed. com. Recall that on October 13, 2022 the Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, discharged and acquitted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, of the 15-count terrorism charges brought against him by the federal government. The appellate court, in a unanimous decision, faulted the process through which Kanu was brought before the Federal High Court to answer to a 15-count terrorism charges.

Census: The Fear of Ndigbo Going Home Grips In, As IPOB Issues Order

April 16, 2023 | EASTERN PILOT

“The mass return of our people during this forthcoming population census will help us quantify the population of Biafrans in Nigeria. They have always told the world that we are a dot with an insignificant population” – Nnamdi Kanu, leader Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, April 5, 2023.

I can understand the frustrations, anger and sense of impatience of Mr Kanu who is arrayed against a lawless Federal Government in what is supposed to be a democracy. A competent court of law had ordered that he be set free; the FG had even been asked to pay him damages. But, Buhari and his Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in executive lawlessness, have disobeyed the court order, as they have done several others, thereby weakening our democracy. To be quite candid, it didn’t take very long after May 29, 2015 that Buhari’s concept of democracy became “government of the North, by the North and for the North” – particularly the North-West, Katsina and Daura.

That is why, despite all the bloodshed by bandits, kidnappers and herdsmen, since 2015, no single northern hoodlum has been brought to justice. People who were responsible for the deaths of thousands of their fellow Nigerians, including school children; sent millions into Internally Displaced Persons’ camps, created unknown numbers of orphans, widows and widowers; drove millions of farmers off the land, are roaming around free – because they come from the North. Southerners, particularly Kanu, who are agitating for self-determination for their people, are in prison or being hunted down for official assassination. Surprisingly, all these are the policies of a Muslim President, who swore to uphold justice for all without favours. I know Buhari prays five times a day as enjoined by the Holy Quran. But, it is doubtful if he can beat his chest and claim he had dispensed equal justice; certainly not to Kanu.

Like it or not, Kanu has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most powerful leaders. Anybody who can order the Igbo to stay at home; not go to their sheds and get the instruction obeyed is a leader of the people who ordinarily don’t toy with their daily bread. Kanu succeeded in doing this for a long period throughout the South-East. We may take exception to the strong arm tactics sometimes adopted to enforce the orders. But, the results are indisputable. He even had to be appeased to allow the 2023 elections to hold in Igboland; and his implied support for a candidate certainly influenced the outcomes to some extent.

Ejiofor said he has been directed by his client, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to immediately correct the false and baseless piece of lies and to demand for the retraction of the defamatory, misleading publication making waves online which was written by faceless agent provocateur by the fictitious name Adeyemi Adegoke.

28/02/2023

IPOB said that we are not interested in this selection called election did not mean that our gallant men went to sleep to allow hired anti-democratic forces and criminals to take advantage of the elections to tarnish our image by creating violence. The Nigeria government has lobbied some international organisations to pin IPOB as those creating insecurity. They told them that we were going to create crises during the elections. We have proven them wrong because IPOB is not a violent movement but a peaceful one seeking peaceful separation from the Nigeria State.

We understand the importance of credible elections as a democratic process to salvage the sufferings by giving people the opportunity to choose their leaders through credible elections. In the case of Nigeria, credible elections are a mirage and can never be achieved.

IPOB condemned publication from one of the political media houses, The Nation Newspaper, purportedly accusing the peaceful movement of IPOB as responsible for the attack in Delta State where two people were murdered in Oshimili Local Government Area.

May it be known to the Nations Newspaper and their collaborators that no IPOB member was killed in the so-called attacks because we are not political thugs and never disturbed anybody during the elections. We knew that some state sponsored criminals and political thugs would claim to be IPOB members to create violence during the elections. They are working together with the federal government of Nigeria or the Fulani government of Nigeria and some states governors who are their stooges to blackmail IPOB.

The world was expecting IPOB members and ESN Operatives to cause crises in the Eastern states during elections because the Nigeria government have made them believe that IPOB are against their elections. IPOB is too smart for them, and we knew what they were waiting to hear, but we outsmarted them again. Instead of their state sponsored criminals and thugs to create crises, IPOB Volunteers and ESN Operatives demobilized their agents and created the calm environment required to conduct their elections in the East.

Nigeria’s attempt to replace its high-denomination currency notes less than a month before a crucial general election has descended into chaos, with long lines of people forming outside cash machines and fights breaking out inside banks as customers demanded access to their own money.

Lengthy queues were visible at ATMs across Lagos, Nigeria’s economic capital, as the failure of the authorities to print enough of the new notes left lenders struggling to meet demand.

21/01/2023

A research group, Nextier SPD, has raised the alarm that the Jihadists terrorism that started with Boko Haram twelve years ago in Northern Nigeria is steadily spreading to Southern Nigeria through the North-Central zone, which demarcates the North and South.

Nextier SPD in a research conducted by its experts, Dr. Iro Aghedo, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Benin, Edo State and Dr. Ndu Nwokolo, Managing Partner and Chief Executive at Nextier SPD, submitted that the availability of ungoverned forest spaces, easy access to deadly weapons and deployment of the poor military strategy of hit-and-run has aided the growth.

To arrest the ugly development, the group said, “One way to stop the weaponisation of these forests is for the federal and state governments to cultivate and use them for large-scale agriculture. Security forces need to rely on state-of-the-art intelligence to identify the sources and channels of illegal weapons. Rather than a hit-and-run approach, security agencies must deploy an extermination strategy to stamp out terrorism.”

It further said, “All these factors aiding the spread of terrorism need to be urgently addressed if the state is to gain the upper hand against the jihadists.”

“Slowly but steadily, non-state violence is spreading across the length and breadth of Nigeria, and the state is largely unable to halt it. The agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which started in 2012, has gained enormous dominance in South-Eastern Nigeria and is fast spreading to other parts of Southern Nigeria.

“Similarly, the rural banditry which erupted in Zamfara State in 2011 has engulfed most of the North-Western zone and large swathes of the North-Central today. Even more worrisome is the mobility of the Boko Haram insurgency. Since the Ansaru broke away from Boko Haram in 2012, followed by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in 2015, jihadist violence has spread rapidly across Northern Nigeria and neighbouring countries, including Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

05/12/2022

The Nigerian Army has been brutally fractured and bastardized since July 2015. This is to the extent that it now bears the atrocity conduct attributes of the failed Armies of Libya and Somalia. Instead of providing public and citizen’s security and safety in the East, especially the South-East in line with their constitutional responsibilities and limitations, the Army has turned the Region into killing field and jihad war zone. Historically, the Libyan People’s Army was the component part of “the Armed Forces of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya” officially founded in 1977 after the “Libyan Great People’s Revolution of Sept 1969” led by Col Muammar Gaddafi. The Libyan Army, with other military branches, was peopled by 760,000 and one of the highly rated professional, powerful and respected militaries in the world. However, following Libya’s main civil war of 2011, fueled by clannish and tribal repressive policies and dominations, the Libyan Army fragmented and decimated to the point of being divided into brutish and clannish criminal entities with outlawed practices or prohibited acts as their modus operandi including cannibalism, hate killings, armed robberies, oil crimes, trafficking in persons, abductions and religious, tribal and racial killings as well as sexual violence of r**e and sexual slavery, etc. In Somalia under Gen Mohamed Said Barre, there used to be “Somali Gendarmerie” (Somali National Army) formed on 12th April 1960. Due to Barre’s increasing reliance on his own clans with repressive policies leading to Somali rebellions, the Somali National Army and other military branches began to disintegrate in 1988 and fully disintegrated in 1991 into clan warfare entities- engaging in all kinds of prohibited conducts unknown to modern military traditions and practices.
