Senator Ned Nwoko Calls For The Creation Of Anioma State As The 6th SE State |

The Need for the Creation of Anioma State to Balance Representation in the South East

The creation of Anioma state is both urgent and compelling. This proposal addresses the longstanding imbalance in the geopolitical distribution of states in Nigeria. The South East geopolitical zone currently has five states, unlike its counterparts, except for the North West, which has seven states. This disparity results in an imbalance of representation and resources, with the South East having only 15 lawmakers compared to the 18 lawmakers of other zones in the senate. This inequity affects legislative representation and the distribution of national resources, perpetuating a longstanding injustice.

I am presenting a bill for the creation of Anioma state to correct this historical oversight. Anioma is composed of nine local government areas, six of which are rich in oil and gas resources. The region also boasts significant human capital, making it a viable and sustainable candidate for statehood. Creating Anioma state is not just about increasing the number of states; it is about ensuring fair representation and resource allocation for the South East.

The call for Anioma state has widespread support from various stakeholders. The Anioma socio-cultural group, Izu Anioma, and the Pan Igbo cultural organization, Ohanaeze Indi Igbo, have both been vocal in their advocacy for this cause. The political class in Anioma, including traditional rulers led by the late Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Chike Edozien, have also consistently supported the creation of Anioma state. They have held numerous meetings, including discussions with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to voice their consensus.

The creation of Anioma state is a crucial step towards achieving justice and equity for the South East. With the majority of stakeholders in agreement, it is time to act and bring Anioma state into existence, correct the past imbalances and ensure fair representation in national affairs.

OPINION : Finidi Cannot Take The Super Eagles Anywhere |

The current Super Eagles Coach, Finidi George who recently warned fans to keep quiet and let him do his job can see that his tactics are not working.

The NFF needs to savage the situation and get a good coach that can handle this best crop of players that we have.

The Super players cannot be doing well in their individual clubs but return to Super Eagles team and suddenly become flop under Finidi George who seems to be Master of all.

In today's game against Benin Republic which ended 2: 1 in favour of Benin Republic shows that there is clearly lack of communication, leadership, and no tactics in Super Eagles team under Finidi George and something should be done about it.

I still strongly support sacking of Finidi George if the Super Eagles really want to go to the world Cup in 2026.

Veteran Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has finally revealed her ideal man.

The movie star said she fancies empathic men who would grant her financial requests above her demands without questions.

She disclosed this in a recent episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast.

“Person wey get good mind na im I dey find. Because if you get good mind, you get empathy, if I say ‘Baby please, give me N1 million’, you fit give me N20 million,” she said.

“But if you no get empathy, you go ask me first of all, say, ‘It is your father’s money?”

Recall that in 2019 Jegede confirmed the crash of her marriage to actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, barely a year after they tied the knot.

The actress stated on the podcast that she left her marriage because she was contributing more financially than her ex-husband.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says it has never contemplated N100,000 as the minimum wage for workers in the country let alone the ₦62,000 offered by the government.

In a chat with Channels TV monitored by Politics Nigeria on Monday, June 10, the Assistant General Secretary of NLC, Cheis Onyeka, said the Labour unions will not be considering any ‘’starvation wage’

“We have never considered accepting N62,000 or any other wage that we know is below what we know is able to take Nigerian workers home. We will not negotiate a starvation wage.

We have never contemplated N100,000 let alone of N62,000. We are still at N250,000, that is where we are, and that is what we considered enough concession to the government and the other social partners in this particular situation. We are not just driven by frivolities but the realities of the market place; realities of things we buy every day: bag of rice, yam, garri, and all of that.”

Onyeka said the one-week grace period given to the Federal Government last Tuesday, June 4, 2024, would expire by the midnight of Tuesday, June 11, 2024. He said should the Federal Government and National Assembly fail to act on the demands of workers by tomorrow, Tuesday, June 11, the organs of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) would meet to decide on the resumption of the nationwide industrial action relaxed last week.

When asked what the decision of Labour would be should the government insists on ₦62,000, he said

“It was clear what we said. We said we are relaxing a nationwide indefinite strike. It’s like putting a pause on it. So, if you put a pause on something and that organs that govern us as trade unions decide that we should remove that pause, it means that we go back to what was in existence before.”

Forensic Audit Uncovers N3.3 Trillion Inflated Figure in Fuel Subsidy Claims by NNPCL under Buhari Gov’t |

A forensic audit conducted by KPMG, a global accounting firm, has revealed a N3.3 trillion discrepancy in the fuel subsidy claims made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) during the administration of former president Muhammadu Buhari.

The audit found that NNPCL inflated its fuel subsidy claims, initially reporting N6 trillion, with the government paying a substantial portion.

However, NNPCL’s Group CEO, Mele Kyari, claimed the company was still owed N2.8 trillion, which the federal government has yet to reimburse.

“Since the provision of the N6tn in 2022, and N3.7tn in 2023, we have not received any payment whatsoever from the Federation.

“That means they (the Federal Government) are unable to pay and we’ve continued to support this subsidy from the cash flow of the NNPC. We are waiting for them to settle up to N2.8tn of NNPC’s cash flow from the subsidy regime and we can’t continue to build this,” he said.

Kyari made the claim hours after the announcement by President Bola Tinubu that fuel subsidy had been removed.

The Nigerian Government has decided to conduct a fresh audit of the N2.8 trillion fuel subsidy claim, following KPMG’s reconciliation, which reduced the claims to N2.7 trillion.

The audit, covering 2015-2021, aims to verify the authenticity of NNPC’s claims.

The Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation (OAuGF) will lead the audit, with the option to engage an external firm for additional support.

The decision was made during a Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in March 2024, where members discussed the need for an independent audit to prevent conflicts of interest.

Today, I picked an interest in watching the match between Enugu Rangers vs Enyimba of Aba and I must say it's the first time I am picking such an interest in our local league. Kudos to whoever that geneatred that type of influnce and made people to turn up and watch the match.

It's very sad that what would have been a history in Nigeria turned out to be an eyesore, disgraceful outing by the Refree and match officials.

I cannot imagine how people from doing different part of the world will be looking at Nigerian league. Like seriously? How can Nigeria El Classico be declared inconclusive? Thanks to INEC Chairman for manufacturing the world which has been added to our football league.

But I keep asking myself? Why didn't a Refree from outside the country blow the match? Why should it be a Nigerian Refree in this type of match which has elicited emotions?.

If a Refree from other African countries officiated the match that would have never been a penalty because it's clearly not a penalty. The player wasn't even touched by the opponent but he decided to fall in order to get a cheap penalty.

What an eyesore!!!! In this type of match, Nigerians shouldn't be carried away by emotions!. I am very sad that would have been great history turned out to be a disgrace. NPFL should do more!!!!.

JUST IN: President Tinubu Names Abuja Road After Chinua Achebe |

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the M18 road infrastructure in the Guzape District of Abuja, naming it after the late Professor Chinua Achebe.

Achebe was a renowned Nigerian novelist, poet, and critic.

Achebe, who passed away in 2013, is celebrated for his seminal work, “Things Fall Apart” (1958), which remains the most widely studied, translated, and read African novel. His “African Trilogy” includes “No Longer at Ease” (1960) and “Arrow of God” (1964).

A video of the commissioning was shared by the special adviser to the president on Social media, Dada Olusegun.

The development follows President Tinubu’s recent naming of the Northern Parkway road in Abuja after another Nigerian literary icon, Wole Soyinka.

These gestures are part of the commissioning of various projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to mark the president’s one year in office.
