Yesterday, Saturday, the Office of Community Communications actively participated in three major activities.

Activity 1- The Office, in collaboration with the Ekiti State Petroleum Products Regulations and Consumer Protection Agency moved round some petrol filling stations in Ado Ekiti. This was informed by the feedback gotten from the people about sudden hike in prices of petroleum products in Ado Ekiti which the people’s Governor, HE Biodun Oyebanji strongly frowned at. Chairman of the Agency, Hon. Arinka Odunayo alongside DG Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho did not only monitor, they engaged managers of stations visited. (Pictures attached)

Activity 2- The Office of Community Communications has a strong synergy with the Office of SSA to the President on Community Engagement (South West).

Therefore, ahead of the 2024 World Malaria Day commemoration and in a bid to eradicate malaria from Ekiti communities, the Office of Community Communications joined the Office of the SSA headed by Hon. Moremi Ojudu on a community sensitization and medical outreach where free medical check was carried out for indigents community members, free drugs and food items were distributed.

The SSA, Hon. Moremi, DG, Mrs. Omotosho and DG EKSWAMA Hon. Sunkanmi Onipede whose team helped in clearing the location, trekked from Post Office through Ugbeyin/Atikankan to Okebola junction where we had the outreach.

Hon. Moremi Ojudu, emphasized that the initiative reflects the president Tinubu’s commitment to inclusivity and delivering benefits directly to the grassroots.

On the other hand, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho, expressed satisfaction that both president Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji prioritize grassroots governance, which is evident in the creation of offices of community engagement and communication. She highlighted these initiatives as indicators of dedication to citizens welfare.

Mrs. Omotosho assured Ekiti of further dividends from the Federal Government, citing the collaborative efforts between the two offices to drive grassroots development. Meanwhile, on a lighter note, as we walked through the streets, the people trooped out with their usual excitement chanting “BAO is here” “Our Governor is here“ (see pictures)

Activity 3- Youth Easter Carnival organized by Housing Youth Agenda comprising 12 communities in the Federal Housing Estate, Ado Ekiti. It was an event championed by the Former Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Prof. Modupe Adelabu. Governor Biodun Oyebanji is one of the most youth-friendly Governors Nigeria has, as he himself advocates for the youth. So far, most, if not all of Mr. Governor’s programs are tailored towards youth empowerment, creation of wealth and opportunities.

Other dignitaries at the event; Hon. Sola Elesin who represented Mr. Governor, Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Adesola Gold, DG Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho, Hon. Recognizing the pivotal role of sensitization and advocacy in disaster prevention and management, the Director-General, EKSG Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso Omotoso in the company of General Manager SEMA, Mr Oludare Asaolu and team, paid a courtesy visit to the Head of Operations, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ondo and Ekiti States, in Ado Ekiti yesterday.

The visit was to discuss ways to form a synergy and working relationship with NEMA to jointly activate an aggressive sensitization and advocacy on disaster prevention and management across communities in Ekiti State.

In his welcome remarks, the Head of Operations, Dr. Kofoworola Sholeye, described as timely, the visit of the DG and her team at her office would help NEMA and SEMA navigate the grassroots for effective communications noting that accessing people at the grassroots for sensitization has always been a challenge.

Dr. Sholeye who expressed confidence that the DG’s visit would usher in a strong partnership, pledged to leverage the Community Communication Office’s grassroots reach for effective community engagement in tandem with the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

In her response, Mrs. Oso-Omotosho commended NEMA for its humanitarian endeavors but emphasized the need to embark on aggressive awareness and advocacy to prevent avoidable disasters, thereby reducing the burden on the governor and government for intervention measures.

Also reacting, Ekiti SEMA General Manager, Mr. Oludare Asaolu, underscored the proactive nature of the visit stating that heightened awareness of prevention reduces disasters which also reduces the workload for SEMA and NEMA, and then enables the State Government to focus on broader developmental priorities, given that many disasters stem from human negligence and lack of awareness.

Initiating their collaborative journey, the three agencies resolved to organize an inclusive stakeholders' engagement, involving key actors in risk communication, and emergency and disaster management within the state.

Others on the courtesy visit team were; SSA Grassroots Communications (North), Hon. Moshood Lawal, Mrs. Laka, a Director in SEMA among others.

The construction King who has turned Ekiti to a construction site

Today, Governor Biodun Oyebanji resumed his inspection tour of various road projects across the state which was previously suspended following the unfortunate passing of Barrister Paul Omotosho, the state's APC Chairman.

The road projects inspected today include: Ikogosi/Igbara-Odo road, Ikere/Igbara-Odo road, Igede/Ilawe Road, Erinjinyan/Ilawe Road, Ado/Ikere/Akure Road, and Ikere/Ise/Emure Road.

As usual, the reception from residents in the communities visited was overwhelmingly positive, with expressions of delight over the ongoing projects. The reception was not only electrifying, it was a carnival-like.

Governor Oyebanji reiterated his commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the projects and emphasized the importance of good road network to the economic growth of Ekiti. He cautioned contractors against cutting corners, stressing the need for all road projects to withstand the test of time.

With these extensive road constructions and rehabilitation efforts, the old narrative of poor road networks in Ekiti is steadily fading into the past, replaced by assurances of enhanced connectivity, improved infrastructure, and a more robust economic dividends.

Meanwhile, can you spot the beautiful Adire T-shirt Mr. Governor is wearing in the pictures? It’s from the newly unveiled Adire Ekiti Hub. Tie-dyed, created and designed in Adire Ekiti Hub in Ado Ekiti by the trainees who had just ended a free 6- day intensive training.
