What is Literature? By Jean Paul Sartre.

Jean Paul Sartre was a renowned philosopher, playwright, novelist, and literary critic. In his essay "What is Literature?" Sartre explores the meaning and purpose of literature.

Sartre argues that literature is a unique form of expression because it is not limited to the communication of ideas or information. Instead, literature is a form of art that seeks to capture the essence of human experience and convey it through the use of language. According to Sartre, literature is a means of creating a new reality, one that transcends the limitations of our everyday lives.

Sartre also argues that literature has a social and political dimension. He suggests that literature is a way of engaging with society and of challenging the status quo. By presenting alternative visions of the world, literature has the power to inspire change and promote social progress.

Sartre notes that literature is inherently subjective. Every reader brings their own experiences, beliefs, and values to a work of literature, and as a result, every interpretation is unique. This subjectivity is both a strength and a weakness of literature, as it allows for a diversity of perspectives but also makes it difficult to establish a single, objective meaning.

Sartre's essay "What is Literature?" emphasizes the importance of literature as a form of art that has the power to transcend our everyday experiences and engage with society on a deeper level.

Ode to my Va**na (From the collection: Unsent letters to my Va**na)

My va**na is a house.
Mowed on the outside.
Wide as a barn door.
Some call it a safe house
Others, a mad house.
Because it has been a home
to thirsty travellers with
Itchy feet.
Hungry and harried men.
Men with no faces.
Homeless men.

My va**na is a house
Overlooking the hills
The road is slippery.
Accessible with
rubber boots.
Beguiling!
Beautiful at night.
Some call it a haunted house.
Because it has kept the
Conflicted hostage and allowed
willow men to check their
souls at the door.

My va**na is a house
A classical ruin
Movable and ambulatory
The dwelling place of peace.
A place of worship.
Communion space.
Many have sworn to Heaven
and seen the face of God
at the peak of ecstasy.
Some call it a temple.
Because it has restored
faith to the afflicted and
ignited the fire of a love lost.

My va**na is a house
A stone house
stinking of hopelessness.
Some call it a bulwark.
A home for soldiers
to drop their bombs,
and fire shots.
Just a fortified
building for heroes
to write history.

My va**na is a house
A fancy bed and breakfast.
Where fool's gold is mined.
Some call it a hotel.
Motel, maybe?
Brimming with art inside.
White linen, and warm showers.
A place for the spoiled,
And fancy to smoke and drown.
To tickle death.
To mock purgatory.

My va**na is a house.
Mowed on the outside.
Wide as a barn door.
Known to carry countries.
A nurturer.
Life giver.
Many men have called
it home.
It has been a home
to many.
Some betrothed.
Some, like an office
revolving door.

REV. FR. RAYMOND EZEONU: HIS LIFE, MESSAGE & LEGACY
By Mr. Godwin C. Ezeaka (2014)
***
FOREWORD
BY VERY REV. FR. (DR.) ABRAHAM NWALI
***
The saying that the fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom is a perennial truth but more challenging is the reality that THE LOVE OF GOD is the true Gift of DIVINE WISDOM!
Fr. Ray Ezeonu was a 'bona fide' priest of the Catholic Diocese of ABAKALIKI.
He was born on 27 March 1943, ordained a priest in 1972 and died on 26th January 2003.
He lived a SIMPLE life. Although he was 'HUMAN', had his blind spot; but was overwhelmingly GENEROUS!
He was GENEROUS with his time! He was GENEROUS in his relationship with God; Spent good quality time in prayer!
He was GENEROUS in his relationship with OTHERS - he was a very friendly and easy going priest!
He was very GENEROUS in his care of the poor and the orphans!
He exercised his priestly ministry and lived his priestly life after the "Divine Goodness' - the 'Summum Bonum'.
The fact is that man is created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27) - meaning that we have an intrinsic desire for Goodness. In Augustinian language: "Our Souls are restless until they rest in the Lord." His soul sought for the Lord, the God of Goodness and was peaceful when he found Him.
The effort of Mr. Godwin C. Ezeaka to compile and present to us: THE LIFE, MESSAGE AND LEGACY OF LATE REV. FR. RAYMOND EZEONU is an invitation to the life of Generosity.
Fr. Ray Ezeonu's life speaks volume, his few years of pastoral life has left an indelible legacy: He fought vehemently against 'the killing of Twins'!
We are grateful to God for the life well lived! Surely he brought the message of salvation to the poor!! The oppressed especially the twins; will never cease to continue to praise God in him!!!
Let us therefore while praying for His Happy Repose, continue the APOSTOLATE he has started!
Bravo Ezeaka Godwin for challenging us to relive, re-embrace the apostolate of the poor!
MAY YOUR SOUL; FR. RAY EZEONU REST IN PEACE! NNA UMU OGBENYE!!
***
Very Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Abraham Nwali is immediate past Judicial Vicar, Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, & Proprietor, Ezeonu Memorial Scholarship Foundation for Indigent African Students, EMSFIAS.

*WISE WORDS*

```In life, some may walk, others may run, but remember the Lord gave the tortoise and the horse the same days to reach Noah's ark. Your journey might be rough and tough but you will definitely get to your destination.
Jacob looked at Joseph and saw a good son! The ten brothers looked at Joseph and saw a useless dreamer! The travellers looked at Joseph and saw a slave!! Potiphar looked at Joseph and saw a fine servant!! Potiphar's wife looked at Joseph and saw a potential boyfriend! The prison officers saw in Joseph a prisoner! How wrong were all of them! God looked at Joseph and saw a Prime Minister of Egypt in waiting!! Don't be discouraged by what people see in you!! Be encouraged by what God sees in you!! Never underrate the person next to you because you never know what the Lord has deposited in that person. Your maid may be a Chief Executive Officer in waiting for a company which shall employ your child. Your garden-boy may be a president in waiting. (Remember David got the anointing of becoming a King while he was a simple child herding sheep. Esther was a simple orphaned girl yet she was a Queen in waiting). Let's share God's love and make the world a better place to live. Show that love by sharing this message with those you love.
IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW PEOPLE SEE YOU, IT MATTERS HOW GOD SEES YOU
God is God:
🏽He doesn't care about *age*, no wonder he blessed Abraham.
🏽He doesn't care about *experience*, no wonder he chose David.
🏽He doesn't care about *gender,* no wonder he lifted Esther.
🏽He doesn't care about *your past*, no wonder he called Paul.
🏽He doesn't care about *your physical appearance*, no wonder he chose Zacchaeus
(the shortest one).
🏽He doesn't care about *fluency in speech* , no wonder he chose Moses.
🏽He doesn't care about *your career*, no wonder he choose Mary Magdalene; a pr******te.
All I know is that my God never changes
🏽He never made *a promise he wouldn't keep*👌🏾
He never saw *a person he wouldn't help*👌🏾
🏽He never heard *a prayer he wouldn't answer*👌🏾
🖼He never found *a soul he wouldn't love*👌🏾
🏽He never found *a sinner he wouldn't forgive*👌🏾
This is the kind of God I would like to commune with every day the moment I wake up. I strongly recommend Him to you.```
