28/08/2021

The Defence Intelligence Agency is the primary military intelligence agency of Nigeria.

“The agency has declared retired Navy Commodore Kunle Olawunmi wanted for spilling the beans over Boko Haram sponsors in the Buhari regime. They asked him to come with his international passport on Tuesday to the DIA office in Abuja,” a top source said.

SaharaReporters had last Wednesday reported that Olawunmi spoke when he featured on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ breakfast programme.

He had condemned Tuesday's attack by bloodthirsty bandits on the Kaduna campus of Nigeria’s foremost military university, the Nigerian Defence Academy, where two military officers were killed and another kidnapped.

The Professor of Global Security Studies had said, “It is an aberration; you don’t attack the Nigerian Defence Academy and get away with it. In 2017, I carried out an investigation by the Minister of Defence that wanted me to check what was going on with the training and the security there (NDA). I remember I spent about a week in the NDA with the commandant and the staff but something struck me: every Friday, the gate of NDA is thrown open and everybody has access to pray in the mosque.

“On Fridays, you are going to see the same thing happening across all military formations in the country. If you go to Defence Headquarters, I served at the Defence Headquarters as the Deputy Director, Defence Administration, between 2015 and 2017, throughout my two years at Defence Headquarters, I received visitors twice because of the strict security architecture there but every Friday, the gate of the Defence Headquarters is thrown wide open for everybody to come in and observe Juma’at.

“That is the time the terrorists have the time to profile our security environment. It has always been the case. I have served the military intelligence for the past 35 years. Our problem is religion and socio-cultural.

Insecurity: Zamfara gov orders closure of markets.........
Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has announced the closure of all weekly markets in the state as part of measures to address worsening security situation in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Matawalle announced this after receiving 18 kidnapped students of the State’s College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Bakura.

The Governor also said the state government banned the selling of petrol in jerrycans as part of the measures to stop supplying fuel to the bandits.

He said, “Filling stations in the state should also sell only N10,000 fuel to each vehicle and should be vigilant of vehicles or motorcycles coming for repeat purchases immediately.

“No commercial motorcycle riders are allowed to carry three persons at a time.

“We also reduced the operations of commercial motorcycle and tricycles between 6:00am and 8:00pm in the state capital, while outside the state capital is between 6:00am and 6:00pm.

”But essential services to include; Health personnel, Security men and Journalist who identified himself were allowed to ride motorcycle or tricycle beyond the stated time.”

The Governor also banned the transportation of cows, and firewood through out the state, while movement of food items must be thoroughly investigated to ensure it does not get to bandits.

While saying that all citizens must comply with the new directives or face the full wrath of the law, the governor also called on the public to report any person found breaching the directives.

FG reintroduces toll plazas, Nigerians to pay N500, N200 per trip
The Federal Executive Council has approved the reintroduction of toll collections on some selected dual carriageways across the country.

This is as it exempted diplomatic, military, para-military vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles from the scheme.

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed these on Wednesday while briefing the State House correspondents at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The decision was made almost two decades after the Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration dismantled all toll plazas on federal roads across the country in 2003.

Fashola said his ministry presented a memo which the council approved to reintroduce tollgates on dual carriageways of the 35,000km federal roads.

These roads, he explained, amounted to only 14.3 per cent of the entire 35,000km stretch of federal roads that were dual carriageways and would be eligible for tolling with vehicles paying between N200 and N500 toll per trip, depending on their brand while diplomatic, military, para-military as well as tricycles and motorcycles would be exempted.

The minister added that dual carriageways represented only 5,050km out of the total 35,000km.

He said, “So the total network of roads today, assuming we wanted to start today, which we’re not, that will be eligible for tolling on the federal network will be 14.3 per cent of the total network. So, 85.27 per cent will not be eligible for tolling.

“We have seen that most of those dual carriageways also have alternative roads, but they are single carriageways; that’s why we left them. So, the only exception to single carriageway are some bridges and they are listed in the regulation.”

The minister said with the FEC approving the reintroduction of toll plazas on selected roads, it was now working modalities to determine how soon the tolling system w

Ohanaeze Youths Demand Ban Of BBNaija
LeadershipAug 11, 2021Read original

Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has condemned the reality television show, Big Brother Naija and described it as “semi-packaged p**n and social monster.”

The national president of the OYC, Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, made the call during an interaction with newsmen in Owerri.

He said the show was deeply affecting the fragile moral upbringing in Nigerian families and schools.

According to him, the show does not hold any morals, especially at this period that Nigerian youths have lost their sense of societal values and norms.

Igboayaka called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to present more reasonable youth programmes that promote value systems, norms as well as intellectual formation.

He said, “With the high rate of lack of moral values among teenagers in Nigeria, BBNaija is a social monster that has come to ruin the lives of Nigerian youths, mostly the teenagers.

Most Nigerian youths are not mentally mature to be participating or watching such semi-packaged p**n programmes that add or proffer zero solution to the social problems confronting them.”

Igboayaka maintained that the government ought not to allow the show to be aired because it promotes immorality and sexual content.
