This week, the Namibia Trade Network hosted our first Business Breakfast Club for 2024 under the theme ‘Sustainable Growth: Learning and Development.

The event convened leading minds in the fields of business development, human resources, and organisational efficiency to engage in a critical dialogue about the future of learning and development in Namibia.

Hosted at the vibrant The Stellenbosch Wine Bar, the panel featured esteemed speakers including Nina Louw from FirstRand Namibia (FNB Namibia), Julia Muetudhana of the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, and Elke Hanstein from Debmarine Namibia. These industry leaders shared insights into how businesses can foster a culture of continuous learning and adapt to the demands of a rapidly evolving economic landscape.

Key discussion points included the interplay between corporate governance and learning cultures, the strategic benefits of lifelong learning, and the role of diversity in enriching educational outcomes. As Nina Louw explained, it is crucial for companies to foster inter-generational, inter-cultural and inter-disciplinary learning environments to help ensure crucial skills transfer from the leaders of today to the future. Panelists debated how best to address the skills gap in the Namibian labour market, particularly in light of burgeoning sectors such as energy.

As Namibia stands on the cusp of significant economic expansion, today’s discussions underscored the critical need for strategic and continuous investment in human capital development. As Julia Muetudhana stated: “Learning is the humility to continue growing.”

A presentation by Stefan Hugo, Director at Future Media Namibia, showcased One Africa’s www.LearnOnOne.org - a wonderful educational initiative that facilitates learning for Namibian children and adults by providing free access to supplementary classes and educational materials through OneAfrica’s widely accessible broadcast and streaming platforms.

The Namibia Trade Network’s Business Breakfast Club strives to be a platform for Namibia’s business landscape to discuss important topics that can help drive sustainable growth across the nation’s industries.

What is bush encroachment? Dr Jerome Boois from the National Botanical Research Institute tells us more! The Department of Forestry has developed a tool which quantifies the level of encroachment as well as the levels of harvesting that can occur on a specific piece of rangeland. Jerome Boois says officials from the Directorate of Forestry are being trained to use the tool: “They should be the ones doing the assessments on the farm and see whether there is enough biomass available … for the farmer to do biomass harvesting and in that way they can issue a permit or not depending on the availability of biomass.”

In this episode of Bush Talks series, Chief Forester, Dr Jerome Boys explains what a landscape should look like after bush thinning. As he explains, “Bush th...

We were delighted to host our partners and clients at the official launch of the 2023/24 Namibia Trade Network at The Stellenbosch Wine Bar this morning. The event brought together our partners, clients and industry friends from across Namibia's diverse economy. As part of the event, we also launched our new venture: The Namibia Trade Network's Business Breakfast Club.

To kick off the BBC Namibia, and what will be a series of insightful networking events, presentations and conversations, we hosted a panel discussion under the topic of "Sustainable Growth". Joining our moderator Kirsty Watermeyer was Nangula Shejavali (Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board), Conrad Dempsey (FirstRand Namibia - FNB Namibia) and Lisa Figaji (City of Windhoek). The dialogue focused on the vital importance of environmentally conscious practices and responsible economic development in Namibia's trade and investment sectors. Attendees benefitted from our panelists' valuable insights, which significantly contributed to an engaging and enlightening experience. The event not only fostered meaningful conversations but also enhanced the collective understanding of the participants, underscoring Namibia's potential in the realm of sustainable growth and its offerings in business and services.

We'd like to thank all attendees as well as our industry partners across Namibia. We hope to continue sharing Namibia's positive growth stories and celebrating the success of homegrown industries with you all.
