President of the Pan African Women's Organisation (PAWO), Eunice Iipinge, has underscored the critical need to advance education and empowerment for women and girls across Africa.
During the 62nd PAWO anniversary, Iipinge expressed concern that while women excel academically, they often face barriers in the job market and leadership roles, which she says is contradictory.
She emphasised the role of education as a catalyst for both personal and leadership development for women and pointed out challenges faced by young girls, including early marriages, genital mutilation, and harmful cultural practices that hinder their progress.
Iipinge also stressed the urgent need for investment in education to secure the future of girls and women in Africa.
Additionally, speakers extended their support for presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah, expressing confidence in her ability to champion women's issues and address the challenges they face.
