Like many of us, Saoirse swims in a pool of notifications and flashing news on a daily basis. Navigating through all these breaking news 🚨 is hard enough, let alone finding real objectivity. 📚

In a world full of disparity and disagreement, let's sit down and talk about nuances and the grey lines we exist in.

Have you ever taken a minute to think about your algorithms? 🤔

Have you ever noticed how your feed shows lot of your favorite politician in angelic light, and your least favorite politician in evil light?

Or what about the fact that we don't read newspapers or get most of our news from local television? 📰Admittedly, most of us choose which apps and accounts to source our information from.

What are the consequences of our actions?

Learn 3 terms used by some of the oldest people of the Philippine Islands! 🏝

In last week's podcast call with Centre for Sustainability PH, Inc.'s Lead of Operations Robert Arangorin, we dove into words used within the Tagbanua people. These are beliefs that also allow them to embrace and respect the land around them. 🌳

Here are 3 terminologies and beliefs used by this indigenous community! 🧚🏽‍♂️

11/02/2022

Meet Robert from ! 💚 From the Tagbanwa community of Aborlan, Palawan, he plays a huge role in indigenous ranger development and seed reforestation.

In this clip, we reflect on how regulations and declaring areas as protected can be nuanced.

Kaingin is a system used by many communities such as some indigenous, to slash and burn forests to attain their food. It is a part of many traditions but is being strictly restricted in places like Palawan, as the practice of kaingin often leads to decline of soil health.

So should the pressure and sacrifice continue to narrow down on the indigenous communities practicing kaingin?

Or the logging and mining industries that have scoured their homes and land?

We discuss what it's like to hold down the fort for land defenders, and his organization's efforts to restore and reforest the island. 🌳🌳🌳 Join this conversation about Protecting Palawan and get to know more about Indigenous Communities. Link in bio. 🌎
