On this day (16th, June) in 1976, nearly 10,000 black children from Soweto, SA marched to the streets to protest the poor quality of their education to disprove the Black Education Act which segregated students based on their race.
Since 1991, this day have been set aside to commemorate the over hundreds of students killed and thousands injured.
Of the 57million primary school age children currently out of school around the world, over half are from Sub Saharan Africa (Source ~ PLAN, UNICEF)
The African Charter on the Rights & Welfare of the Child states that "Every Child should have the right to education", "Every Child should have the right to enjoy the best attainable state of physical, mental and spiritual health" (Article 11.1 and Article 14.1)
Education and health are interconnected, so investments here will improve the economic growth of any nation🙌
