Our Story
The First ever Radio Station by a school in South Asia now moving forward with their traditions since adding new technology in to the era of FM Royal. FM Royal is the epitome of the achievements of the students of Royal College in Radio Broadcasting. Since its inception, FM Royal has enjoyed 19 successful broadcasts, with some of them rising to special prominence, such as in 1995 when FM Royal became the Official Radio Station for the South Asian Games, and in 2000 when FM Royal provided LIVE coverage of the Bradby Shield Encounter. In addition, FM Royal has pioneered several successful technologies in Sri Lanka as part of its broadcast. The FM Royal Web cast, which launched in 2005, was Sri Lanka's first 24-hour Internet mirror of a FM Broadcast, and the FM Royal Podcast, which in 2006 became the first service of its nature in Sri Lanka, furthermore in 2014 it was able to go worldwide using the FM Royal mobile app and was also broadcasted in the three major cities; Colombo, Kandy and Galle.
Continuously innovating the Media Unit of Royal College and the Technologies club of Royal College wish to join hands this year to carry on the legacy of FM Royal in superior fashion. The Media Unit will be handling the presenting and event management aspect while the Technologies club will be handling the Technical and Logistical aspects. Publicity will be carried out jointly by the two clubs.
