~ We are excited to be back! The Peer textbooks have been changing the dialogue and conversations since February 2018. This year is yet another school year and term to continue engaging students in classrooms across the country on Life Skillls using The Peer textbooks.

Some communities value women and endeavor to protect them or vice versa. In this communities, incidences of GBV against both genders are few and the perpetrators are severely punished.
This sends a message that GBV cannot be condoned.
Communities that have low regard towards one gender make the process of attaining long and complicated. This contributes to culture tolerance of abuse.

Now, feminists are not anti men neither are they angry women. They are people who recognize that promoting gender equality is advancing society. Anyone can be a feminist. Being a feminist means championing the rights of girls and women to ensure that we achieve SDG 5 ( Gender Equality)

Today we look at the impact of gender violence on victims. Beyond the emotional trauma that comes as a result of gender-based violence, victims also suffer physical injuries which are sometimes permanent, contraction of sexual transmitted infections and interruptions of sexual and reproductive abilities’.
Survivors of gender-based violence suffer from physical and psychological trauma which have long term consequences.

Research indicates that GBV increases the risk of HIV infection. It establishes a clear association between intimate partner violence ( IPV ) and HIV, with women experiencing such violence facing a 50 percent increased risk of being infected with HIV. Similarly, GBV contributes to HIV and AIDS in the ways above.

In other cases young people living with relatives are mistreated and rendered homeless. This causes them to resort to early marriage as a way of solving their problems. Unfortunately for most of them, the spouse ends up being abusive. This is mostly because they are prepared for the demands of marriage and they also seem like a burden.

We are dedicated to promoting a healthy learning environment by educating and motivating young people to make safe choices.

School related Gender based violence is any form of violence based on gender roles and relationships that take place in, on the way to, or around the school. They often take place in I'm supervised spaces around school compounds.

• motorbikes, matatus, as they commute to and from school.

There are no official statistics on the number of cases of violence against women and girls in Kenya, but calls to helplines have surged more than 10-fold since lockdown measures were imposed in late March.
