Today, we hosted Mr. Joel Kariuki from King'ong'o Primary School, an award-winning teacher known for his innovative approach to art and environmental conservation.

Mr. Kariuki, who is the Art Club patrol at his school, is renowned for his work in converting waste materials into artistic products. His creative process involves collecting discarded plastic bottles, polythene bags, and old clothes from the River Chania and repurposing them into sculptures and other art forms.

Currently, Mr. Kariuki is busy gathering waste papers and plastic containers across Nyeri town. This effort not only supports environmental conservation but also enhances educational experiences in schools. His work is set to be showcased at the ASK Kabiru-ini Show in Nyeri next month, where he will exhibit his recycled art pieces.

Mr. Kariuki's dedication to turning waste into beauty exemplifies a commitment to both artistic expression and ecological responsibility, and his upcoming exhibition promises to highlight the potential of recycled materials in creative endeavors.

I had the pleasure of hosting my longtime friend Francis Kagema, aka Gitira, at our Nyeri Mohoro Newshub offices today!

We go way back to our 2009 Census days, where we teamed up as enumerators. Fast forward to now, Gitira has not only been a top fan of mine from my radio days but has also made waves as a political strategist and the head coach of Ngandu FC.

Ndima Kanini Academy Recognized for Academic Excellence

At the annual Prize and Thanksgiving Day held at Ndima Kanini Academy, Prof. Johannes Njoka of Karatina University delivered an insightful speech on what constitutes a center of academic excellence. Addressing a gathering that included the Board of Management, teachers, and the top-performing students of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Prof. Njoka emphasized the critical role of primary education in shaping a child's future.

Prof. Njoka highlighted nine essential characteristics that define an academic center of excellence. These include strategic management and leadership, laying a solid educational foundation, nurturing learner potential, and fostering a child-friendly environment. He stressed that effective leadership and a well-structured governance system are crucial for maintaining high academic standards. Furthermore, he noted the importance of setting realistic targets, fostering holistic development, and integrating technology in education.

The professor also underscored the significance of parental involvement and the role of role modeling in inspiring students. He praised Ndima Kanini Academy for exemplifying these qualities, citing its exceptional performance in national examinations as a testament to its commitment to educational excellence.

Prof. Njoka concluded his address by recommending Ndima Kanini Academy as a top choice for prospective students and congratulated the Class of 2023, teachers, and parents for their continued success and dedication.
