In Kalenjin we call it Tarket or Sotet. In English, it is known as Calabash. When it is still green, before it has been harvested, dried and beautified like this, Sotet is known as Silakwet.

In Kalenjin, we use it to store fresh milk and also to convert fresh milk into sour milk(mursik). To sweeten the milk and to clean the calabash,a dry branch of African Senna tree is put on fire then as soon as it glows, it is inserted into the calabash and rotated gently. The inside of the calabash turns black. As black as me. The sooth is known as wosek. Don't wash it away. Just put the milk the way it is. You'll see a lot of black particles dancing on the top of your milk as you calmly sip your milk. Wosek is harmless. It never killed our forefathers. It'll never kill you too.

In Kalenjin, there are various types of calabash. I'll tell you a few :

1.Kipsegerit- This type of Sotet is very large. You can use it to store around 15 litres of milk.
2. Mososiot - This sotet is is slender in appearance. Figure eight. This is the one you take to your husband or any important guest that might visit you
3. Mait kok- This one is used by bachelors and children. This includes women who have refused to get married. So if you want to motivate your children to get married, give them this type of sotet. Tell them what it means. Hata k**a wanaishi taon, uwachukulie.
4. Abanget - Wide mouthed sotet. Preferably used for storing mursik.
5. Kimusarit - This one is used to feed children. You pour milk from another sotet to it and you handle it with less care. No reverence.
6. Kebuchet- This one is used to feed animals. You don't have to clean it oftenly. But then if you don't, your animals might get infected with typhoid or cholera.smallest Sotet for feeding young animals orphans.
7. Kipropchet- This sotet is calabash deliberately cut into two, at the tip of the neck, as if you are about to severe the head of a cow ready for an Abrahamic sacrifice. Later on, you merge it using kipsotiet
