Devashish Makhija LIVE - a shortSCAPE Special
Showcasing DEVASHISH MAKHIJA & his World of Shorts on moviesaints.com : For many filmmakers SHORTS are a means of crossing the threshold.. sending out the message that they are filmmakers now - that their thoughts and views have found cinematic expression. But there are some who go beyond this Stepping Stone approach - they are able to play & experiment with this form. They craft stories within it.. breaking rules and barriers .. evolving new formats and notions about what is the ‘correct’ frame in which a story might be told. Devashish Makhija is one such upstart. And while he plays with form, he finds new ways of disrupting our sensibilities - shocking us out of our privileged complacence to look at complex worlds and themes... at a politics that evokes a world view sharpened by its awareness of unequal opportunities & unequal distribution of rights... that plays out a scene with fascist undertones - questioning the relevance of a peoples or the subaltern in the face of the larger Dominant Discourse.
This Special Showcase has been curated as a fitting finale to Round 2 of shortSCAPE to open up conversations around the cinema of this highly provocative filmmaker and throw open possibilities that the work of a thinking, processing, constantly evolving artist can have.
