Former BJP Union Minister Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday morning posted a tweet that could intensify the speculation of him being considered as the opposition's candidate for the 18 July presidential election. "I am grateful to Mamata Ji for the honour and prestige she bestowed on me in the TMC. Now a time has come when for a larger national cause I must step aside from the party to work for greater opposition unity. I am sure she approves of the step," he tweeted.

Yashwant Sinha, who has served as India's Finance and Foreign Minister, has been the Vice President of the Trinamool Congress. He had quit the BJP in 2018. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been holding talks with opposition leaders for the Presidential Polls.

Opposition leaders are holding a meeting at the residence of Sharad Pawar on Tuesday to hold discussions about the Presidential Polls, a day after West Bengal's ex Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi refused to be nominated for the post.

(Watch Video) BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Sunday sought to defend Modi Government's 'Agnipath Scheme' for military recruitment, which is facing stiff opposition from various quarters, saying if he has to appoint security personnel at his BJP party office in Indore, he would give priority to those who have served as 'Agniveers'!

His remark soon kicked up a row, with some prominent political leaders, including his party colleague MP Varun Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, besides several netizens slamming him for it. The Madhya Pradesh Congress demanded an apology from the BJP for "insulting" the Defence Forces.

Under fire for the statement, Vijayvargiya later said what he meant was that the excellence of Agniveers will be utilised in whichever field they choose after completing service in the Defence Forces. He also accused the "toolkit gang" of twisting his remark to insult the "Karmveer".

The Modi Government on Tuesday announced the 'Agnipath Scheme' for four-year contractual military recruitment that has sparked protests in many parts of the country and is being questioned by many parties. The soldiers to be recruited under this plan will be called Agniveers.

A video of his statement went viral on social media platforms. Several other social media users also slammed Vijayvargiya for his statement.

K K Mishra, Chairman of the Media Department of Madhya Pradesh Congress, also criticised Vijayvargiya for the statement.

"Agniveers, who will be recruited (in the Armed Forces) only for four years, will be later appointed as security guards at the BJP office. This is a big insult of the unemployed youth and the valour of the armed forces. BJP should apologise," he said in a tweet.

Calcutta High Court'S Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, who ordered CBI probes in many WB Govt's irregularities 'fed up' with agency!

"I'm tired. I'm fed up with the activities of the CBI. Now I am in a dilemma whether the investigations will yield any fruitful result," the Judge said in open Court while talking to senior Advocate Kalyan Bandyopadhyay, who is also the Trinamool Congress MP from Serampore.

As Kalyan Bandyopadhyay spoke about the CBI's poor track record. "It is a fact. The performance of the CBI is very bad. This court had in 1993 issued a CBI probe order in the Bhikhari Paswan disappearance case. Till date, the CBI has done nothing," the lawyer said.

Paswan, a jute mill worker, had allegedly been picked up from his home in Telenipara, Hooghly, by then CPM Government's Police in 1993 in connection with an agitation at Victoria Jute Mills. He never returned, nor was his body found.

His family alleged he had been killed by the Police. The Police said they had neither picked up Paswan nor were they aware of his whereabouts (as like like former Naxalite leader, Poet Saroj Dutta). | Read more here 👉 facebook.com/BengalNewzWB
