- A delightful circus appears in a young boy's dreams every night. As he learns the tropes of the trapeze and delves deeper into the dreamworld, he realizes that the audience are all sinister creatures who feed on fear, and the boy is their prime attraction.

- A woman with the ability to enter other people's dreams is hired by the family of an Alzheimer's patient to catch his recurring nightmares. As she delves deeper into his subconscious, she realizes that the root of the nightmares is a dark incident in the man's past

Feel free to follow any of these writing prompts or come up with your own:

Your story can be inspired by a classic slice of Bram Stoker, featuring an unsuspecting victim falling prey to the unearthly charm and machinations of a strigoi.

Your story may be a piece of essential social commentary, the tale of a reclusive 'Count' and his suspicious subjects in a county where people are disappearing until their bloodless bodies are found. Is the Count a typical, indifferent ruler, or is he a vampire?

Maybe your story is a unique thriller, where vampires are abducted and forced to participate in a survival game, and the Helsing Hunters have a field day shooting wooden stakes through their hearts with crossbows from a safe distance. The last vampire standing wins and shall be allowed to live.

Let's say you take the post-apocalyptic route, and your story takes place after 'World War V' - during a sunless nuclear winter, where the last surviving vampire hunter is on a mission to hunt the last surviving bloodsucker.

Or, you can also choose neither day nor night and take the well-trodden path of a vampire romance. Feel inclined to swap genders at least, and make your love story feature a vampiress and her human lover, destined to be doomed.
