The fire started around 7 pm at the ground floor of the toilet section of the main building at SMIMS, opposite to the badminton court.

As per sources, "the ground floor had printing cartridges which caught fire when someone put out a cigarette from one of the above floors. The cartridges are the reason for the black smoke in the above floors. The fire didn't spread, as it was brought under control by the fire department within CRH Manipal by fire officers who were quick to reach site".
Later, the State Fire Department also reached the spot, but by then fire was already brought under control. No major damages were reported apart from the burned cartridges.

“No Law and Order in Sikkim: SKM Member's Violent Assault on Youth in Rangpo”

In a shocking incident in the heart of Rangpo market, a member of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) Youth Front, holding a prominent post, was caught on video brutally assaulting a youth on the 8th of September. The disturbing footage, captured by horrified onlookers, shows the SKM member grabbing the youth by the hair and repeatedly attacking him. No one dared to intervene out of fear, as the assailant's close association with the Chief Minister of Sikkim since the 2010s is widely known. The SKM post holder then released a video on the 10th of September explaining why he assaulted the youth, unapologetically justifying his actions.
This incident highlights a troubling pattern in Sikkim where the youth feel threatened, are silenced, and forced to bow down before the power of the SKM party. The atmosphere of fear prevails as instances of violence involving SKM party members continue unchecked by the police. Regrettably, FIRs are not being registered, witnesses are intimidated into silence, and victims are unjustly blamed, all while justice remains elusive.
In multiple incidents in the past, such as the attack on Mr. Keshav Sapkota, criminals showed no fear of the police showcasing a total failure of law and order. Even in the presence of police officers SKM members continued their assault repeatedly, as Mr. Keshav Sapkota stood there helplessly. In another case, Mr. Rajesh Walling was attacked by a mob of SKM members, but they were simply allowed to walk away as the police strolled casually to the severely wounded and unconscious Mr. Walling.
If such incidents are not checked and corrected right now, it is certain that the situation will become worse in the future. Under the leadership of PS Golay such violent incidents are occurring again and again, and they will continue to happen in the future. These incidents can also be attributed to the governance of Chief Minister PS Golay who has clearly stated on multiple occasions that he will not forgive anyone who goes against his party. He has made it clear that he will run the government based on party affiliation and as a party president rather than the representative of the people. There will be no tolerance for those who go against him and he will enter their homes and fix them.
These incidents are driving many youths to seek refuge in the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party, which is associated with a legacy of democracy and safety under Shri Pawan Chamling's leadership. During his tenure, SDF cadre respected the rule of law, as law and order prevailed independent of political influence. The Police Department was proud and worked freely and even SDF members would get arrested if they broke the law. Such exemplary maintenance of law and order has led the youth to believe that only Shri Pawan Chamling can make Sikkim safe again.

* गत महिना April महिना देखि आज सम्म सडक मरमतिको नाममा बन्द गरिएको छ । लगभग छ महिना हुन लाग्यो ।

* यो बाटो बन्द भएको कारण, चालिसे, किङस्टोन, Upper Khamdong, Aritar, आदि बाट नियमित रिनाक बजार आउने जानेले लामो बाटो रूङदुङ-चार फाटक भएर लगभग 6-7 km बेसि हिन्नु पर्ने हुदा, गाडी भाडा र समय दुईवटैको मर्का झेल्नु पर्दैछ ।

* अझ भएन बिरामीहरूका लागि पैसा भन्दा पनि समयको महत्व हुन्छ, बिरामीको लागि पाँच मिनट पनि महत्व हुने कुरा हामीलाई याद ।

OPED | The SKM (Sikkim Krantikari Morcha) government's endeavour to establish a film city in Sikkim, resulting in its ultimate failure. This shoot note delves into the reasons behind the SKM government's unsuccessful attempt at creating a film city in the state.

Lack of Government Support:

The success of a film city often hinges on active government support and involvement with the key stake holders – talents, artists, technical experts, film makers, audience/janta and others. Government incentives, subsidies, and policies can be crucial in attracting production companies. If the government's commitment and support are lacking, it will be a complete failure in implementing the project.

Administrative and Regulatory Failure:

Navigating administrative and regulatory failure can be challenging in any location, but it can be particularly cumbersome in a region with unique geographical and cultural characteristics like Sikkim. Unnecessary Political interference in the Bureaucratic systems and complex permitting processes have led to its complete failure.

Finally:

The SKM Sikkim Government's promises to establish a film city in the state is a failure. Ultimately leading to its unsuccessful realization. Addressing these challenges would have been crucial to the success of the film city initiative. Further more the stake holders and youths of the now and future film industry of Sikkim are the victim to the SKM Government’s ill and misleading Governance.

Dear people of Sikkim,

On this day (9th September) in 1992, I lit a candle in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly (SLA) in symbolic protest for the search of democracy in Sikkim. The Sikkim Sangram Parishad (SSP) government at that time was dictatorial and people did not have the freedom to speak. I was the lone member of the opposition and even though I was the only voice of the opposition in the SLA at that time, I was not given time to raise issues on behalf of the people of Sikkim. There was fear inside the SLA as well as outside its walls too. Just as I was not allowed to speak in the Assembly, in the same way the people of Sikkim were unable to voice their concerns and express their dissent. To protest this lack of democracy, I lit a candle in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly as a symbolic kranti. With my symbolic protest, a message was sent out to the people of Sikkim and the protest today has become an event etched in history.
During the SSP regime, we struggled against the dictatorial government and opposed its policies strongly. During the struggle, a fabricated Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Prevention Act (TADA), 1987, case was registered against me and on the 21st June 1993, I went underground. Many fabricated cases were filed against me and for three months, I had to go underground. The reason I went underground was not just because of the TADA case but because my life was in danger. Those were times of struggle as hired goons and the police of the SSP government were always after me. I was saved several times by a stroke of luck from being murdered. After receiving anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court, I came back to Sikkim on 22nd September 1993.
During this period, strict orders were given that Chamling and his family were not to be given rations in Namchi Bazaar or any of the bazaars in Sikkim. We had to bring our rations from Siliguri and sometimes, well-wishers would bring rations in secret. A warning was issued for anyone who would come to meet me at my house in Namchi. It was declared that if anyone broke an arm of a visitor, he would get 1 lakh rupees as a prize. If two limbs, then two lakhs and if all four limbs, then 5 lakhs would be given as a prize. At that time, if anyone was caught reading an SDF party pamphlet, they would be threatened. If an employee were caught with party literature, they would either be terminated or transferred and in the case of MR employees, they would be terminated immediately. SDF supporters’ lives were in danger. They would be chased by men with ‘patangs’ and their cars would be vandalised.
We worked hard and put our own lives on the line to free the people of Sikkim from this kind of dictatorial regime. The 25-year tenure of the SDF government was peaceful and we ensured that Sikkim and the Sikkimese people were always protected. We ensured that the values of democracy, equality and justice became a fabric of Sikkimese society. Not all are aware of the kind of struggle that we went through to bring peace in Sikkim. It was a peace that was won after a vicious battle with an authoritarian and violent regime. The peace was won after a long battle in which our own lives were in danger but still, we fought for peace. Unfortunately, the same kind of government with similar dictatorial tendencies is at the helm of governance today.
Under the SKM government since 2019, there is no freedom of speech in Sikkim. People are unable to express themselves whether in public or on social media. In case of the slightest doubt that an employee is unfavourable towards the SKM government, they are either immediately terminated or transferred. Even those who are murdered cannot hope for justice under the incumbent government. Padam Gurung’s family still awaits justice as the government tries its best to protect the culprit. The government is intolerant of the opposition and under SKM we have seen the worst violence against opposition political party members in the history of the state. Goons can beat up and attempt to murder civil society members and opposition party leaders in the presence of the police and still there are no consequences for the culprits. Corruption has reached the highest peak and Sikkim is well on its way to become a failed state. Crime in Sikkim has exponentially increased under the SKM government.
The biggest loss in the last 4 years is that healthy dialogue between opposing parties which is the foundation of a democracy has been demolished under SKM. Every Assembly session that I have attended has been devoid of a healthy discussion between representatives of different parties. More untruths are spoken than truths within the walls of the Assembly. We live in a post truth world, but it seems post truth has climbed out of the arena of the media and entered the hallowed halls of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly. Even though every word uttered inside the SLA is recorded for posterity, this still does not steer our politicians from speaking lies inside the Assembly. Soon after the formation of the SKM government, unparliamentary words were hurled against me from the gallery, destroying the decorum of the SLA. No action has been taken by the Speaker of the House till date. This signals a deterioration of democracy as well as an increasing intolerance not just inside but outside the SLA too.
Today, Sikkim is in a state of ‘pre-fascism’ and unfortunately, it seems the people of Sikkim have accepted it. The authoritarianism of the state has become normalised and the public are silent. However, the spirit of democracy is freedom and this freedom is worth fighting for. Freedom is the last refuge for the people and it was for this freedom that I lit a candle in 1992. It is for this freedom that I am propelled forward in this struggle for restoring democracy in Sikkim today. The conditions of the state under which I lit a candle in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly have re-emerged with more severity and my symbolic protest is even more relevant today. However, the difference today is that the fear looms larger amongst the people this time around. The SDF party stands to protect the light of democracy in Sikkim but it is upto the people to come forward and reignite the flame of freedom within themselves which has been snubbed out by the dictatorial SKM government.
On this day, I urge the people of Sikkim to take a stand to protect the values of democracy and freedom. It is our duty as citizens to protect these values on which our state and our nation stand. Staying neutral or passive in the face of injustice and hatred, authoritarianism and oppression, does not pardon us from the blame of a deteriorating state but instead makes us equally, if not more so, responsible for it. I lit a candle in 1992 to search for democracy and during the SDF tenure, we as a responsible government and political party, ensured that democracy was restored and well protected in Sikkim. However, it is up to the people to carry forward that flame of democracy so that the future of Sikkim is never again plunged into darkness and instead is ever illuminated by the light of democracy, justice, equality and freedom. Long live democracy! Long live Sikkim and the Sikkimese people!

“Negligence of Public Assets Unacceptable: Sikkim Deserves Better Governance”

On September 5th, we accepted an invitation from the Assistant Manager of Temi Tea Garden for a return visit to assess the maintenance once again. This visit aimed to shed light on the troubling state of the Tea Garden not just to the public but also to the management, and the SKM government.
During our visit, we extensively explored sectors 8, 11, 14, 15, and 16 of the Tea Garden. Notably, sector 11 has seen some improvements since our previous visit on September 2nd, with workers diligently tending to the tea bushes. Our team had expected to see further progress in other sectors, only to find conditions worse than anticipated.
It was disheartening to observe that the only well-maintained area was the one frequented by tourists, constituting a small fraction of the entire estate. The rest of the areas were in a deplorable state, with rampant w**d growth smothering tea bushes, indicating months of neglect. We spent an entire day navigating the estate across five sectors, all revealing the same story of neglect.
The Assistant Manager also made an outrageous claim that the w**ds were only 10 days old and a normal occurrence at the tea estate. However, the sheer size of the w**ds, some standing at 4 feet, suggests a minimum age of 6 months. This raises serious concerns about transparency and integrity under the SKM government.
The SDF party would like to remind the SKM government that if important public assets are facing a shortage of labor, it is their job to allocate sufficient labor. These are not complex or impossible challenges for the government, clearly showing negligence on their part. After witnessing the constructed response of SKM government avoiding responsibility and misleading the public, it has become clear that this is not the type of governance the honest and proud people of Sikkim deserve.

Rishal Pandey Chettri, hailing from Gangtok and currently pursuing an undergraduate course in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data at Yeungjin University in South Korea, has earned a prestigious spot as a delegate at the upcoming Best Diplomats, Turkiye Model United Nations (MUN) conference. The event is slated to take place in Istanbul, Turkiye, from October 6th to October 9th, 2023, and marks the second conference organized by Best Diplomats, with the first conference set to commence in Dubai from September 22nd to September 25th, 2023.

The selection of Rishal Chettri is a testament to his outstanding academic achievements and his commitment to diplomatic discourse. An avid quizzer and scholar, this is Rishal's second foray into the international MUN circuit after previously participating in the Africa World MUN held in Egypt in 2021, where he showcased his prowess in international relations and diplomacy.

Rishal's academic journey has been nothing short of remarkable, having secured a fully funded scholarship from the Korean government to pursue his higher education in South Korea. His undergraduate studies in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data exemplify his dedication to cutting-edge fields, which aligns seamlessly with the diplomatic challenges and global issues deliberated upon at MUN conferences.

० केहीदिन अगाडि रम्फु चेकपोस्टमा एउटा गाडीलाई सिक्किम सरकारले २० दिनसम्म percentage को निहुँमा रोकेर राख्यो । यसरी बाहिरबाट निवेश गर्नेहरुलाई सिक्किम सरकारले यसरी harassment गर्दैछ भने बाहिरका कम्पनीहरुले सिक्किम छोड्ने मन बनाउदै छन् ।

० ३७१ F को कारणले गर्दा दुबई र सिक्किममा एउटै प्रकारको विशेष अधिकार छ तर शेख राशिदले दुबईमा बाहिरका कम्पनीलाई धेरै सुविधा दिएर दुबई बनाए भने रम्फु चेकपोस्टमा बाहिरको कम्पनीको ड्राइभरले २० दिनसम्म सरकारको बाट harassment खाएर झण्डै गाडीमा आगो लगाए । अनि उक्त कम्पनीको मालिक लगायत अन्य कम्पनीका मालिकहरु यसकिसिमको harassment देखि दिक्क भएर सिक्किम छोड्ने विचार बनाउदै गएका छन् ।

० केहीदिन अगाडि पाङ्ग ल्याबसोलको दिन मुख्यमन्त्रीले एकजना व्यापारीलाई आय करमा छुट भएको कारणले गर्दा तपाईंलाई ४० करोडको फाइदा भयो भन्दैथिए । मुख्यमन्त्रीले यसरी प्रत्येक व्यापारीको पैसामा आँखा गाडेका छन् ।

० सिक्किममा एउटा नेताले जातधर्मको कुरा गरेर र अर्को नेताले पैसा बाडेर सिक्किमको हित हुनेवाला छैन ।

० नाइजेरियाका एकजना राजनीतिज्ञ पिटर ओभी भन्ने व्यक्ति छन् र उनले भनेका छन् :- " जुन चै देशमा राजनीति चाहिँ उद्योग धन्दा भन्दा आफ्नो फाइदा बनाउनेतिर हुन्छ त्यहाँ कहिलेपनि उन्नति हुनेवाला छैन । जब चै हामीलाई शासन गर्ने सरकारमा बस्ने मान्छेहरु चाहिँ उद्यमीभन्दा धनी हुन्छ त्यस्ता नेताहरुले अरु केही होईन गरीबीलाई उत्पादन गर्छ ।"

० सिक्किममा अहिले हरेक राजनीतिज्ञले एकपटक सत्तामा पुग्ने सपना देखेको हुन्छ किनभने एकपटक उसले जितेपछि अर्कोपटक पैसाले नै जित्छु भन्ने सोचेको हुन्छ । पिटर ओभीको कुरा सिक्किममा सान्दर्भिक छ ।

० अहिले मान्छेको हातमा पैसा नपुगेर गाउँका बुढाबुढीले पैसा चिन्न छोडिसकेको भन्ने कुरा म एउटा गाउँको दोकानेसँँग बातचीत गर्ने क्रममा थाहा पाए ।

० हाम्रो बिरोध प्रणाली र नीति प्रति हो तर हामी कसैको व्यक्तिगत विरोध गर्दैनौं ।

० जनताले सुविधा पाउनको लागि सरकारले दुख गर्नुपर्ने हुन्छ मेहनत गर्नुपर्ने हुन्छ । त्यसको लागि सरकारले कमाउनुपर्ने हुन्छ । दुबईको शेख राशिदले झै सरकारले राज्यको आर्थिक स्थिति बलियो बनाइदिनुपर्ने हुन्छ ।

० हिजो हामी दरामदिम क्षेत्रको टिकपुरको ओरेन्ज भेल्ली गाउँमा गएका थियौं । त्यहाँ प्रत्येक घण्टा जमीन दबिदै गएको रहेछ । सरकारको ध्यान अहिलेसम्म त्यहाँ पुग्न सकेको छैन किनभने सरकारकोमा पैसा छैन । त्यसरीनै पाथिङ्ग पहिरो, दिक्चु, देन्तामतिरको पहिरोले ग्रसित परिवारलाई सरकारले राहत पुर्याएको छैन किनभने सरकारकोमा राहत पुर्याउने पैसा छैन । सिक्किम आर्थिक सुधार नहुन्जेलसम्म बलियो स्थितिमा पुग्दैन ।

० सरकारले स्वास्थ क्षेत्रमा निकै काम गरेको भन्नुहुन्छ तर गाउँलेहरुले सहयोग गरेर दिल्ली एम्समा एकजना क्यान्सर पिडित ३ महिनादेखि उपचारक्रममा रहेछन् तर उनले सरकारबाट केही मद्धत पाएका छैनन् । यहाँ मद्धत त केवल पार्टीका कार्यकर्ताहरुले पाउदैनन् तर आम साधारणले होईन।

० गाउँमा विद्यार्थीहरु बिद्यालयमा तिर्ने Fees भएर परिक्षामा बस्न सकेका छैनन् । विद्यार्थीलाई ३२५० रुपियाँ र १८०० रुपियाँ Fees तिर्ने नभएर अनि विद्यालयले मात्र दुईदिनको समय दिएको कारणले परिवारलाई अहिले साह्रो परेको पनि हामीले थाहा पायौं तर सरकारले भन्ने गर्छ हामीले निशुल्क शिक्षा दिइरहेका छौँ ।

० तिमी नाम्थिङको माङ्लेका परिवारलाई हेर्नुस् , त्यहाँ बाटोमा डेरा बनाएर दोकान चलाएको परिवारलाई भेट्यौं , जसलाई घर चलाउन मुश्किल परिरहेको रहेछ । एकपटक त्यहाँ गएर हेर्नुस् त्यो परिवार सँँग आँखा मिलाएर बात गर्नुस् अनि पीडा बुझ्ने कोसिस गर्नुस् र यदि तपाईंले उनीहरुको पीडा बुझ्न सक्नुभएन भने तपाईंमा मानवता छैन रहेछ भनेर बुझ्नुहोस् ।

० मलाई व्यक्तिगत रुपमा मेरै छिमेकीलाई उठाएर मेरो विरुद्ध सरकारले लगाएको छ । मेरो परिवारलाई सिक्किममा बदनाम गराउने चेष्टा सरकारले गर्दैछ किनभने मेरो कारणले सरकारलाई दुखेको छ । मैले दशबर्ष पन्चायतलाई नेतृत्व गर्दा देशकै उत्कृष्ट पन्चायत बनाएको थिए । अहिले मेरो विरोधमा पत्रकार ल्याउने, मान्छे थुपारेर मेरो दुस्प्रचार भैरहेको छ ।

० एकजना सडककै बैदार स्कुटीमा दुर्घटना भएर बस्नुभएको रहेछ र कसरी दुर्घटनामा पर्नुभयो भनेर मैले प्रश्न गर्दा उहाँले मलाई Road Engineering ठीक भएर आफ्नो दुर्घटना भएको मलाई बताउनुभयो । बैदारमा त्यो Road Engineering मार्फत रोड बनिनुपर्छ भन्ने भावना रहेछ मलाई त्यो देखेर खुसी लाग्यो । त्यसरीनै Road Engineers मा पनि त्यो भावना हुनुपर्छ ।

० हामी भर्खरै बनिदै गरेको पार्टी हो त्यसैले बुद्धिजीवीहरु र युवावर्गहरु अघि आएर हामीलाई ज्ञान दिनुहोस् सल्लाह दिनुहोस् । तर तपाईंहरु नभाग्नुहोस्, तपाईंहरु आँँट र साहस लिएर हामीलाई सहयोग गर्नुहोस् । सिक्किममा अहिले हामीसँँग चाहेर पनि सरकारको डरको कारणले बातचीत गर्न चाहेका छैनन् , सिक्किमको लोकतन्त्र यस्तै छ।

० हामी बिहार र उत्तर प्रदेश भन्दा कमजोर छौँ किनभने यहाँ सिक्किममा सही नेतृत्व छैन । जनताले पनि सही नेतृत्व हुनुपर्छ भनेर खोज्नुपर्छ र सही नेतृत्वहरु पनि म सक्छु भनेर राजनीतिमा आउनुपर्छ र यहाँ सही नेतृत्वबीच प्रतिस्पर्धा हुनुपर्छ र सिक्किमलाई अगाडि लैजानुपर्छ ।

० शेख राशिदले पत्रकारसँग बातचित गर्दा एकपटक भनेका थिए- " मेरो बाजे र मेरो बाबू उँटमा चडे तर म Mercedes मा चडिरहेको छु र मेरो छोरा Land Rover मा चड्छ र मेरो नाति पनि Land Rover जस्तै गाडीमा चड्नेछ तर मेरो पनाती चाहिँ उँँटमै चड्नुपर्ने हुन्छ ।" पत्रकारले तपाईंले के भन्नुभएको भन्दा उनले यसरी जवाफ दिएका थिए - " कठिन समयले हामीलाई मजबुत बनाउछ अनि मजबुत मान्छेले सहज समय ल्याउछ र सजह समयले फेरि कमजोर मान्छे जन्माउछ अनि कमजोर मान्छेले फेरि कठिन समय ल्याउछ ।" उहाँको उद्देश्य चाहिँ के हो भने हामीले परजीवी होईन योद्धा जन्माउनुपर्छ ।

० सिक्किमको व्यवस्थाले हामीलाई योद्धा नबनाएर परजीवी बनाएको छ । जबसम्म हामी योद्धा बन्न सक्दैनौं तबसम्म हाम्रो आउदो पिढीले दुख पाउनेछ । यदि कसैको गुलामी भएर पैसा कमाएको छ भने आउदो पिढीले नराम्रोसँँगले दुख पाँउछ ।

० अर्कोसाता म सिक्किमको व्यवस्थाले , सिक्किमको प्रणालीले , सिक्किम सरकारको विभित्र विभागले र चेयरम्यानहरुले सिक्किममा के कस्ता फाइदा पुर्याए त्यो उजागर गर्नेछु ।

० सत्ताको राजनीति हामीले गर्नेथियौं भने हामी पनि झण्डे राजनीति गर्ने थियौं होला तर आज हामीले सिक्किमको हितको निम्ति झण्डारहित राजनीति गरिरहेका छौँ ।

० प्रत्येक गाउँमा हामी जादा आइतबारको कार्यक्रम हामी नबिराई हेरिरहेका छौँ भनेको हामी सुन्दै आइरहेका छौँ । हाम्रो सिद्धान्त मनपराइदिनुभएकोमा हामी सबैलाई धन्यवाद दिन चाहन्छौं । त्यसैले आज सरकार हामीसँँग डराएर विभिन्न कुराहरु मार्फत हामीलाई बदनाम गराउनतिर लागेको छ ।

० म जनताको निम्ति हरेक लडाइँ लड्नको निम्ति तयार छु । अहिले मैले एकजना गोलेको सामना गरिरहेको छु तर सिक्किमको हितको निम्ति म मेरा शुभचिन्तकहरुलाई भन्न चाहन्छु म दशजना गोलेको प्रहार झेल्नको निम्ति तयार छु । तपाईंहरु निर्धक्क भएर बस्नुहोस् हामी २०२४ मा सरकार बनाउने लक्ष्यतिर अडिग भएर काम गरिरहेका छौँ ।

The fire started around 7 pm at the ground floor of the toilet section of the main building at SMIMS, opposite to the badminton court. As per sources, "the ground floor had printing cartridges which caught fire when someone put out a cigarette from one of the above floors. The cartridges are the reason for the black smoke in the above floors. The fire didn't spread, as it was brought under control by the fire department within CRH Manipal by fire officers who were quick to reach site". Later, the State Fire Department also reached the spot, but by then fire was already brought under control. No major damages were reported apart from the burned cartridges.

This shoot note delves into the reasons behind the SKM government's unsuccessful attempt at creating a film city in the state. Lack of Government Support: The success of a film city often hinges on active government support and involvement with the key stake holders – talents, artists, technical experts, film makers, audience/janta and others. Government incentives, subsidies, and policies can be crucial in attracting production companies. If the government's commitment and support are lacking, it will be a complete failure in implementing the project. Press Release “Negligence of Public Assets Unacceptable: Sikkim Deserves Better Governance” On September 5th, we accepted an invitation from the Assistant Manager of Temi Tea Garden for a return visit to assess the maintenance once again. This visit aimed to shed light on the troubling state of the Tea Garden not just to the public but also to the management, and the SKM government. During our visit, we extensively explored sectors 8, 11, 14, 15, and 16 of the Tea Garden. Notably, sector 11 has seen some improvements since our previous visit on September 2nd, with workers diligently tending to the tea bushes. Our team had expected to see further progress in other sectors, only to find conditions worse than anticipated. It was disheartening to observe that the only well-maintained area was the one frequented by tourists, constituting a small fraction of the entire estate. The rest of the areas were in a deplorable state, with rampant weed growth smothering tea bushes, indicating months of neglect. We spent an entire day navigating the estate across five sectors, all revealing the same story of neglect. The Assistant Manager also made an outrageous claim that the weeds were only 10 days old and a normal occurrence at the tea estate. However, the sheer size of the weeds, some standing at 4 feet, suggests a minimum age of 6 months. This raises serious concerns about transparency and integrity under the SKM government. The SDF party would like to remind the SKM government that if important public assets are facing a shortage of labor, it is their job to allocate sufficient labor. These are not complex or impossible challenges for the government, clearly showing negligence on their part. After witnessing the constructed response of SKM government avoiding responsibility and misleading the public, it has become clear that this is not the type of governance the honest and proud people of Sikkim deserve.
