Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister has urged the Naxals to come together and engage in dialogue with the administration in order to find answers. His plea was made just hours after a Friday encounter in Bijapur resulted in the deaths of twelve Naxalites.

"I appeal to them (the Naxals) to join the mainstream and have discussions with our government, which is ready to provide very good facilities, more of which will be announced in the future," Sharma told ANI. "The solutions to the issues should be found through talks. Development should reach every village. Why should the people of Bastar be kept hostage?"
Talking about the operation of the security forces, he said, "Around a thousand soldiers of the DRG, STF and Cobra battalions of Bijapur and Dantewada had set out for the joint operation. Fortunately, in the operation, none of our soldiers were injured." Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated the security forces after the operation.
"An encounter broke out between Naxals and the Security forces in the Gangaloor area of Bijapur district. 12 dead bodies of the Naxals have been recovered. I congratulate our jawans and senior officers. Ever since we came into government, we have fought strongly against the Naxalites. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah also want Naxalism to end in Chhattisgarh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a recent interview that he was optimistic that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's arrest in the alleged excise policy scam would not become a precedent for others to follow in Indian politics.

In a not-so-veiled attack at the jailed Delhi CM, the Prime Minister said he was sure that other politicians would not be lacking in morals. Arvind Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody till May 7 and continues to run the Delhi government from inside the Tihar jail premises."I am optimistic that this (Kejriwal continuing as CM from jail) will not become a precedent. I feel other politicians won't be so lacking in morals and will not go to this extent," the Prime Minister said in an interview with The Times of India.
On March 21, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. Kejriwal was later moved to Tihar jail and has been lodged there since.

I would be more than happy to meet you in person to explain our 'Nyay Patra' so that, as prime minister of the country, you don't make any statements that are false,” Kharge added.

Prime Minister Narenda Modi holds bilateral meetings with his U.K. and Italian counterparts on the sidelines of the G-20 summit

Reviewing progress on the India-U.K. Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in the works, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Rishi Sunak agreed that Ministers and negotiating teams would continue “to work at pace” towards an agreement.

“We discussed ways to deepen trade linkages and boost investment. India and U.K. will keep working for a prosperous and sustainable planet,” Mr. Modi said on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) after a bilateral meeting with Mr. Sunak on the sidelines of the ongoing G-20 summit. Mr. Modi also conveyed his appreciation for the U.K.’s support during India’s G20 Presidency, marked by “high-level participation at various G20 meetings and events”.

“Two nations, one ambition. An ambition rooted in our shared values, the connection between our people and, of course, our passion for cricket,” Mr. Sunak said in turn.

“Both leaders also reviewed the progress of Free Trade Agreement negotiations and expressed hope that the remaining issues could be addressed at the earliest so that a balanced, mutually beneficial and forward looking Free Trade Agreement is concluded soon,” an official statement after the talks said.

On the FTA, the U.K. PM’s Office said in a statement that Mr. Sunak reiterated the U.K.’s ambition to “deliver a landmark trade deal which benefits businesses and workers in both countries and grows our trade in both goods and services”.

The statement also said that Mr. Sunak congratulated Mr. Modi on India’s “consummate” Presidency of the G-20 this year, which has demonstrated India’s “vital global leadership and influence”. “The leaders reflected on the close and growing ties between the U.K. and India, exemplified in the ‘living bridge’ between our people. They agreed it was important to build on the past and focus on the future.

Chetan Singh (33) a constable with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), who shot dead four people, including a senior colleague on board an express train, got transferred to Mumbai in March this year and had complaints against him earlier for 'indiscipline and insubordination'.According to a senior RPF official, Singh got the job in 2009 on compassionate grounds following his father's death in service. His father Bacchu Singh was an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) with RPF, posted in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.

Hailing from Meetai village in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh, Singh rejoined duty after a 12-day leave on July 18. His wife Renu Singh, a homemaker, eight-year-old son and six-year-old daughter live in Mathura, while his mother is in an old-age home.

Some railway officials said that he was short-tempered and Singh's colleagues had lodged official complaints against him. As per Western Railway RPF records, Singh had complaints of 'insubordination' while he was posted in Ujjain over five years ago, said a senior RPF official. His colleagues had complained of misbehaviour and indiscipline about Singh, he added.

The official, however, said that recently there have been no complaints against him and no inquiry was pending against him.

Prior to his Mumbai posting in March 2023, Singh was posted in Bhavnagar where he got transferred from Ujjain railway station under Ratlam division. From Bhavnagar, he sought transfer with two options — Ahmedabad and Mumbai, following which he was transferred to Mumbai at Lower Parel workshop.

Railway officials said that just an hour before the incident, Singh had complained of restlessness following which ASI Meena had called the control room. His replacement was to come in Vapi but minutes later, Singh told Meena that he was feeling better and can continue.

However, after the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express train crossed Vapi on Monday morning, Singh fired 12 rounds from his ARM rifle, which was loaded with 20 bullets, killing four, including Meena and three civilians.
