As we approach the month of summer and Olympics, it’s essential also to use our time to reflect on the world beyond our surroundings. Summer is a time to enjoy freedom and ease, but it’s also a time to remember that we share this world with others. Despite our differences, we coexist as humans. While we indulge in the warmth of the season, many are enduring hardships. This summer presents an opportunity for us to utilize our time to take a step back and educate ourselves on what’s going on beyond our immediate surroundings.

As individuals, we are diverse in many ways, yet we share a commonality: our humanity. Regardless of our differences, we inherently deserve the same fundamental human rights that protect our dignity and freedom. We are currently witnessing numerous atrocities worldwide. As tensions escalate in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, raising awareness and using our voices on social platforms becomes increasingly important. During these challenging times, we must strengthen and support one another.

In recent months, we have seen widespread suffering, including war and genocide, affecting innocent civilians worldwide. For instance, focusing on Palestine, where genocide is unfolding, or Indonesia, where Papuans face the loss of their forests. In these difficult situations magnifying these voices becomes imperative. In our tech-driven society, acknowledging the significant role of social media in amplifying the voices of marginalized and oppressed communities stands as one of the most accessible means to raise awareness.

In our Summer Issue titled, ‘Skins,’ we invite you to harness your creativity and voice to spark a movement, amplify marginalized voices, and support those who cannot be heard. (Text Emily Naima)

“Both the main character, Ichiko, whom I played and myself are very capricious. We are not lying about our emotions, but I thought we were similar in that, our emotions change quickly or we are not good at holding on to the same emotions.” -Mitsuki Takahata

Mitsuki Takahata gets sincere on her latest role in the live-action adaptation of Peko Watanabe’s manga series, 1122: For a Happy Marriage. She has been spending her days embodying different personalities for more than a decade. From voice acting, cinema, and even theatre, Takahata has done it all. Now, the actor is taking the lead of a beloved manga series.

Following the manga’s story, the show will tell the tale of married couple, Ichiko Aihara, played by Takahata, and Otoya Aihara, played by Masaki Okada. The couple have been married for seven 7 years; however, they remain childless and sexless. In an attempt to maintain their marriage, both have decided to allow extramarital affairs into their union. Although they mutually agreed and partially solved their issues, the arrangement continues to bring in new conflicts with each other and within themselves.

DEW is a Jakarta-based online media created by Indonesian fashion enthusiasts for the global market. It began as an online platform dedicated to scout local talents in 2010. DEW has come a long way since it was first published 8 years ago. Constantly reinventing itself, as with our website, DEW continues to encourage creativity, to maintain the quality of its editorial content and defining the times with a vanguard of next generation image makers, stylists and writers.

Our philosophy comes from a numerous amount of emerging image makers that haven’t been widely exposed by many media. Our big mission is to support international and local talents in every creative field and develop their strong potential.
