OIC Banjul Summit Press Conference: Successful Conclusion of the OIC Banjul Summit
Banjul, The Gambia โ 7th May 2024- Today, a press conference was convened at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center following the successful conclusion of the OIC Banjul Summit, 15th Islamic Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Banjul, The Gambia. The conference was attended by esteemed stakeholders including H.E. Dr. Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad; Hon. Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information; Ambassador Yankuba Dibba, CEO of OIC Gambia; and Mr. Nfally Fadera, Head of Brand and Communication of OIC Gambia and Chaired by Mr. Lassana Tunkara, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee Media Subcommittee.
The press conference follows the historic and successful hosting of the OIC Banjul Summit, from the 4th-5th May 2024, which has solidified The Gambia's position as a significant player on the world stage. Following the conclusion of the Islamic Summit, The Gambia assumes the chairmanship of the OIC for the next three years.
CEO Ambassador Yankuba Dibba expressed his delight at the positive outcome of the summit, emphasizing that it was one of the best organized by the OIC.
H.E. Mamadou Tangara extended gratitude to all those involved in the success of the summit, acknowledging the unwavering support of H.E. President Adama Barrow and the contributions of Gambian citizens. He thanked partner countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, The Islamic Republic of Mauritania, The Republic of Senegal, The Kingdom of Morocco, The Republic of Turkiye and The Republic of Indonesia among others for their tremendous support and collaboration.
Hon. Dr. Ismaila Ceesay congratulated the President of The Republic of The Gambia, H.E Adama Barrow for assuming the chairmanship of the OIC. He highlighted The Gambia's proactive stance on global issues and advocating for humanitarian aid. He commended the OIC Secretariat for their excellent work and thanked all stakeholders involved.
Mr. Nfally Fadera expressed his appreciation for the trust and guidance of the CEO and highlighted the significant achievements of The Gambia in hosting the OIC Banjul Summit. He emphasized the extensive participation of Gambian companies highlighting that 90% of contracts were awarded to Gambian owned businesses. Gambian companies were contracted for logistics, transport, media and more which showcases the nation's capabilities to the world.
In conclusion, the press conference celebrated the successful conclusion of the OIC Banjul Summit and highlighted The Gambia's readiness to take on its role as the chair of the OIC.
