There is soo much debate and chat about Spotify's new policy to not pay out on royalties for tracks that don't hit 1000 streams in their first year.
I'm lucky enough that the label I release on regularly put in work and hit the right channels for my music and surpass that amount, also with my own promo and marketing which could and will get better! BUT I don't see any money on that right now as is important for me that the label breaks even and are able to keep running. I strongly believe in the next year or so I will be turning the ears of the bigger labels.
Thing is though we all know as artists that we don't make money from our actual music unless you invest in the solid consumables like Vinyl and CD, which I currently don't have the budget for. So why do we create the music? Because we love to and for me is to unknowingly touch someone's life with a tune that just hits them in the right feels! And to also leave a bit of a legacy for my family to look back on and see my journey!
Are Spotify right? For me I understand it as I think it strong up labels and distribution companies and make quality control a bit harder like it used to be. Could it be harder to get labels to take a chance on your music? Possibly, but that's part of fun of the game. Push harder, get better! Don't rest! Get better at performing and getting those gigs and fans as that's where the money is!
Nothing worth having in this life is easy and we have made a decision to follow our dreams and passions. Goes for any industry where there's so much competition. Belief and hardwork will get where you need to be!!
