This Friday we welcome the one and only Robert Owens to Factory Floor in Sheffield.

In his own words, Robert Owens has been making house music ‘before house had a name’.

One of the most distinctive, coveted and prolific voices in the genre, Robert has an illustrious career that started in late 80’s Chicago and has produced some of the greatest tracks house music has witnessed. Responsible for era-defining classics such as ‘Tears’ alongside Frankie Knuckles & Satoshi Tomiie, ‘Bring Down The Walls’ with Larry Heard as part of Fingers Inc., as well as solo releases ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’ and ‘Mine To Give’ which hit number one on the Hot Dance Music / Club Play chart, Robert has created seminal records which you can comfortably bet will have a place on any house head’s all-time favourites list.

After setting the standard during house’s formative years, Robert has remained at the forefront of the genre, releasing on labels such as Dekmantel, Ninja Tune, Boysnoize, Circo Loco and HE. SHE. THEY,  building an extensive discography of solo projects, as well as a catalogue of collaborations which reads like an electronic music hall of fame - Masters At Work, Jamie Jones, Soul Clap, Coldcut, Marshall Jefferson, Catz ’N Dogz, Ron Trent - the list goes on.

What has set Robert apart throughout all these releases, is the raw emotion and passion he delivers into each and every vocal take, providing an uninhibited human touch to everything he works on. Lyrically too, we see an artist who is unashamed in his commitment to spreading the positive values of house music as a medium for self-expression, inclusivity and spiritual liberation.

Robert’s unique live performances continue to deliver this message, spellbinding audiences across the world with distinctive DJ sets embellished by his live vocals - a format which pays testament both to his talent as a singer, and his extensive depth of musical knowledge and selections.

You can catch the man in action with La Rumba founder Román kicking things off from 20:00.

This Saturday sees one of our favourite guests join us for the 5th (??) time in Sheffield, SNO, heading over the pennines for an evening-into-night extended session.

We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know over the years, hosting her everywhere in Sheffield from Yellow Arch Studios with Mr. Scruff and Awesome Tapes From Africa back in 2020 to Plot 22, Sidney & Matilda, Hope Works (and some very silly extended afterparties) alongside Lukas Wigflex, Maurice Fulton, Channel One, O’Flynn and DISCHI, which has allowed her to flex in all sorts of directions on dance floors of all sizes.

This time’s different, as we’re very excited to be bringing SNO over for a headline set of her own with us on warmup duties starting in Peddler Warehouse from 19:00 -23:00 and ending in Factory Floor from 23:00 - 02:00 to take us on a journey through Africa’s rich musical landscape, R&B, Hip Hop, Latin, and whatever else we fancy.

The NTS Radio resident can travel musically from Cape to Cairo almost pedantically but certainly enthusiastically with an energy just as strong behind the decks as it is on the dancefloor. Her electrifying sets had us hooked since we first saw her play, and has garnered appreciation from African Music giants such as Tony Allen, Kanda Bongo Man, Femi Kuti, Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas, Les Amazones D’Afrique, Dele Sosimi and Amadou and Mariam.

Swipe for a couple of highlights at our own parties and over at over the years

Don’t forget that both our shows are free entry but we recommend heading down to Factory Floor early to avoid the queues as it’s Peddler’s monthly event!

We head back to Burton Road on Saturday 2nd November for an all night session with SNO starting at Peddler Warehouse and ending at Factory Floor, did we mention it’s free entry?

Since we kicked off Factory Floor’s regular live shows in June 2023, the venue has seriously taken off recently to bring legends like Maurice Fulton and Chris Duckenfield down for their ‘Factory Resets’ events alongside their ‘Live from the Floor’ series which we’ve been buzzing to be programming, bringing Mim Suleiman, Franz Von, Yarni and more to this little gem of a venue in Kelham.

Peddler Warehouse has undergone a mega makeover too, redesigning their floor plan to place live music front and centre in their foodhall which opens on the first weekend of every month.

With this in mind, we’re very excited to kick-off a run of shows at both Peddler Warehouse and Factory Floor where we’ll be inviting various selectors to dig into their record bag for an evening session at Peddler followed by a ‘closing party’ style setup at Factory Floor. Watch this space in 2025.

Saturday 2nd November sees one of our favourite DJs and no stranger to La Rumba head down to bring an assortment of hidden gems and lost classics spanning the African continent, US Hip-Hop and deep house.

Pre-party at Peddler Warehouse: 19:00 - 23:00 (free entry)

After-party at Factory Floor: 23:00 - 02:00 - also free entry but head down early to avoid queues at the door!

Introducing our first guest on Friday 1st November!

PHONETICS X LA RUMBA PRESENT Cengiz, Wheelup (Live), Bald Ethos and more at Sidney & Matilda

Cengiz is a London based DJ, record collector and producer, originally from Istanbul, who has been releasing music under CoOp Presents and Dance Regular labels, with recent releases being tipped by heavyweights like Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Lefto Early Bird and IG Culture.

Growing up in the lively metropolis of Istanbul, Cengiz found himself immersed in a vibrant tapestry of musical styles. The city's diverse cultural influences, blending elements of both eastern and western music, provided a fertile ground for his musical exploration. Amongst this captivating sonic mosaic, it was jazz that resonated deeply within him, leaving an indelible mark on the trajectory of his artistic journey.

After relocating to London, fuelled by an unwavering passion for music, Cengiz embarked on a dedicated quest to curate a diverse collection of records, delving into genres that spanned the realms of house, jazz, broken beat, and soul. This extensive musical palette inspires him to develop a unique and mesmerizing sound that reverberates on the dance floor.

Cengiz joins Wheelup’s full live bald, Bald Ethos, Chris Welch and Phonetics x La Rumba residents at Sidney & Matilda in 2 weeks time!

Better late than never, here’s where you can catch us this autumn & winter starting off with our Sheffield Stands Up! fundraiser last Friday.

To say we had planned to take a back seat from independent shows after our spring / summer season, we’re very grateful to be invited down to our final few shows in 2024 by some brilliant promoters at some of our favourite venues and be joined by some incredible artists, old and new, from out of town and close to home.

This Saturday we’re playing at No Bounds Festival for the first time alongside Batu, Kelman Duran, TSVI, re:ni and more which is a bucket list moment for us to play at one of Sheffield’s / the UK’s most forward-thinking events to wrap up our festival season - Catch us in Janksy from 20:00 🤯

Friday 1st November we’re back at Sidney & Matilda for our second link-up with Phonetics bringing Tru Thoughts’ label-head WheelUp! (Full live band), Dance Regular’s Cengiz, Bald Ethos and our residents.

The following night we’ll be joined by our regular guest from over the Pennines, NTS resident SNO, playing Peddler Warehosue followed by Factory Floor.

9th and 15th November sees the 7-piece local jazz outfit, We Hate The Sharkman, and the Chicago House legend, Robert Owens, at Factory Floor - tickets running low for both shows!

We’ve got a very special all night long session to be announced on 13th November and a trip back to our original stomping ground at The Harley on 16th November.

And finally, we’ll be wrapping up 2024 with a familiar face in Mafalda playing at Peddler and Factory Floor on Friday 6th December ☀️

Hope to catch some regular faces on a dancefloor soon❤️

The dust has settled from Friday night and the total count is in. We’re ecstatic to announce we raised a whopping £2,100 for our local charities doing some incredible work to support refugees, migrants, and marginalised groups in the Sheffield community South Yorkshire Refugee Law & Justice 🙌🏼

A huge huge thanks on behalf of our co-organisers, room hosts, and the venue .radio and to everyone that made it down on the night and spread the news for this one.

We’ll be sharing photos from the evening at a later date but where do we even begin with our Friday night entertainment. Every room at Sidney had an incredibly eclectic vibe with some stunning music played across the board by our local Sheffield talent.

Astrels killed their headline performance of psychedelic electronica after Benzo’s late addition to the lineup gave us a soulful & energetic kick-start to our evening after some stellar performances from Angela Kendall, AB, Adam Bashir and more.

The Savanna Boys shut down the bar soon after with a packed room jamming to amapiano whilst we went toe-to-toe with Phonetics, bringing Latin, bruk and house to the Gallery and Tubman & PukkaDon had the basement vibrating with bassline.

Omašta, Awedinary closed their rooms down in style before a mega impromptu b2b2b2b from Colettee, Dan G, Román and Anekae to round things off 30 mins past closing!

Too many highlights to reel off including some very heart-warming messages from people saying it was one of the most multi-cultural events they’d seen in recent times and us hearing one of our artist’s stories of how playing at the night was a full circle moment after helped their family settle into Sheffield years ago to get up on their feet.

Big up yourselves Sheffield, this one was really special ❤️

Set times for tomorrow night!

Starting with our first announcement, unfortunately Jayahadadream is unable to perform tomorrow night but nevertheless! has saved the day to bring us Sheffield emerging talent, Benzo, off the back of their sold out showcase at Factory Floor last weekend who will be co-headlining our show with Astrels and our incredible DJs joining us over the course of the evening repping nearly 20 different nationalities on our lineup alone.

Doors open at 19:00 sharpish with a flexible curfew until 04:00 if the party crew is still with us. There are a couple of discounted tickets available on Resident Advisor until 12:00 tomorrow then they’ll be more on the door so act fast if you want to save a couple of £ or pay full price which will all be going to our named charities either way.

It will absolutely go without saying that tomorrow night at Sidney & Matilda is a safe space for all people from all walks of life regardless of colour, class, religion, orientation and none of that discriminatory B.S. will be allowed!

We wanna see the energy and positivity tomorrow night to demonstrate what Sheffield is truly made of.

We’ve extended our guest list to any refugees and people within our community facing financial hardship, so you know anybody that would like to attend please get in touch privately.

See you soon ❤️

Announcing our final room hosts for Sheffield Stands Up! this Friday at Sidney & Matilda!

We knew the first crew we’d be calling up to be a part of this lineup would be Migration Matters Festival.

Coming up to their 10th edition in 2025 - the last 3 of which we’ve been immensely grateful to be a part of - we can barely think of any one promoter or event that has done more to celebrate and raise the importance of migration and supporting refugees in the steel city whilst throwing a mega party in recent years than

Every third week in June during what is known nationally as Refugee Week, “Britain’s largest festival about Sanctuary and refugees in the country” (The New Internationalist, 2017) brings international culture and communities together from all around the world through music, art, performance, food and celebration to create a platform to champion the voices of people who are so often muted, pigeon-holed into labels and rarely genuinely offered a chance to shape the cultural and artistic landscape of the cities they live in.

For our room this Friday we wanted to pull together a lineup that resonates with both La Rumba & MigMat’s ethos, and so we are very excited to be joined by Phonetics’ Levi Bussue, Mondo x Beatriarchy co-manager MYNA, Omašta, and our resident Román, flying the flag and pushing sounds from the Afro-Carribbean-Eastern-European-Latino-Middle-Eastern diaspora insoiidee!

Announcing our next room host for Friday 4th October!

Phonetics have been DJing and promoting events in Sheffield and beyond since the early 00s!

From hip hop to bruk, taking in everything from soul to samba - Phonetics has always joined the dots between genres, hosting some serious heavyweights like Roots Manuva, Kelis, Gilles Peterson and Fat Freddy’s Drop at their original weekly night ‘back in the day’.

Phonetics’ reboot in recent years has been a gem on the Sheffield scene, featuring regular events with the lines of Onipa, BCUC, Allysha Joy and IG Culture, oftentimes raising money and awareness for refugee aid and homelessness support initiatives, combined with festival appearances at We Out Here Festival and Shamble.

Performing under the Phonetics banner in the evening are our two headliners, Jayahadadream and Astrels, alongside Ruth Joy, Chris Welch, and a new face on the scene, AB!

Announcing our second room host on Friday 4th October at Sidney & Matilda!

This one’s a double whammy as are also one of our organisations we’ll be fundraising for as part of Sheffield Stands Up!

VVIDY, Voice of Voiceless Immigrant Detainees - Yorkshire (VVIDY) is a Campaign, Advocacy and Solidarity Movement based in Sheffield. They are a group of Campaigners and Organisers from different parts of the world and walks of life, with the majority of the organisers having direct Lived Experience of the Immigration Hostile Environment.

Recently, VVIDY have taken an exciting approach to fundraising with their Sheffield Solidarity Sessions where they invite a handful of local selectors down to raise money for charity through ticket sales.

Joining the VVIDY crew in the bar in the evening are some of our favourites on the Sheffield scene, made up of Adam Bashir, Angela Kendall, Apricot Ballroom and Machine Soul, spinning all things house and disco from doors opening until 23:00 before we roll into the club night.

For more information on VVIDY’s work, make sure to check out their page

After setting the standard during house’s formative years, Robert has remained at the forefront of the genre, releasing on labels such as Dekmantel, Ninja Tune, Boysnoize, Circoloco and HE. SHE.
