The UK's longest-running independent student magazine, established at Oxford University in 1892. A lot has happened to The Isis since 1892.
We have been banned in Germany, threatened by blackmail, and mocked by Punch Magazine. Along the way our reporters have been prosecuted under the Official Secrets Act, hosted by Wikileaks, and forced to walk out over threats of editorial censorship during The Isis’ radical left-wing heyday. On this journey, our ranks have included the likes of Evelyn Waugh, Sylvia Plath, Boris Johnson, Terry Jones
, Graham Greene, David Dimbleby, Michael Foot, Richard Ingrams, George Osborne, Chris Huhne, Hilaire Belloc, and of course Mostyn Turtle Piggott, our delightfully eccentric founder. Isis comes out three times a year: one issue for each Oxford term. We also organise term-time events: speaker panels on arts or culture or politics; documentary screenings; gigs featuring Oxford's best student bands; and club nights. For back-issues and other articles, see our website. There you’ll find the best of student journalism and design, carefully assembled by the Isis team. “Wear goggles. Have half a lemon in your mouth. Do not inhale gas from the exploding grenades. For your eyes: hydrocortisone eyewash.” In 1968, The Isis published a guide on navigating student protests in Paris (useful advice for those currently going on their year abroad). Then, as now, there was a sense of urgency in publishing. Though we sometimes imagine the artists in isolation, receiving divine inspiration from above, our creativity has never been able to escape the world around it. Our words are part of a dizzying and raucous dialogue, and this term, The Isis wants to amplify your part of the conversation. We ask you to remove whatever silencers, muzzles, or mutes you may be using to make your voice more palatable. In a world where the arts are continuously asked to justify themselves, where temperatures are rising and democracies are flailing, we want to know what stories you tell yourself to survive, what rallying calls you feel compelled to answer. When your back is against the wall, what do you have to say for yourself? As always, the theme is intended to be a stepping stone for inspiration. We hope to rouse your imagination, not limit it. We look forward to receiving your think pieces, poetry, investigations, photography, fiction, choreographed dances – whatever it may be. Give us your most earnest ideas in whichever medium you best express yourself. No matter what you submit, we hope it is driven by creative urgency. Be bold. And stay tuned for more info… Submit here: https://forms.gle/55dp8E8QdRqNQBd8A Art by Giulia Imbert and Poppy Williams.

Submissions for the magazine are OPEN HERE: https://isismagazine.org.uk/submissions/ What is Frenzy? Frenzy is a multitude of things.
