A beauty šŸŠ of a pike.

Twas a tough old week last week. One of those that has you thinking about open horizons by the Wednesday, and big hills and bigger water come the Friday. So when Saturday morning arrived with a better forecast than expected, myself and the kids decided to get the tent and pike rods out of the shed, and make the journey up to the lake in the mountains.

It hasnā€™t fished too well up there since the new year - and we were starting late in the day. Well, we were starting even later after we had a milk malfunction, with two loose pints in the van, and then we lost a pair of wellies. Then, on arrival, someone was in the swim weā€™d hoped to fish - so it was off to an all-new part of the lake - and that was when I realised Iā€™d left a load of my fishing gear at home too.

It didnā€™t really matter - we were where we were supposed to be. I had just enough to cobble together a cast and we had everything we needed to just relax and play some games among the trees. What I definitely was not expecting though, in our very short, very disorganised, session, was the rod to melt off with this very fine fish attached in very shallow water.

It was a bit chaotic getting the powerful old girl in the net - with my daughter having to carry over a net bigger than her, to land a barely hooked fish as long as my son. But after a few ā€˜very nearly lost it momentsā€™ she finally went in.

Made up with that pike - and despite their faces, the kids were too - it was just that by the time we got to the photo bit they already wanted me to go back to pretending to be a dog.

Which is fair enough, I guess.

Woof. Woof.
