Three years on from their debut EP, ‘Hopeless Failure’, UK experimental noise via grindcore via hardcore punk duo Victim Unit has returned. The pair, composed of Danny Page and Lotta Ridgely, will be releasing their debut full-length ‘If Not, Y Not?’ on June 17 via Affair Records on cassette and Hibernacula Records for digital.

Music video 'Bloodcry Of The Goldfinch' directed by Megan Grover ( https://www.megangrovermedia.co.uk/ )
The first nine tracks of ‘If Not, Y Not’ sees VICTIM UNIT up the intensity of their amalgam sound of challenging and avant-garde extreme music with raucously hardcore and industrial metal tinged guitar work, most notably on lead single ‘Bloodcry of the Goldfinch’s electronic minimalism and trap beats that seamlessly coalesce with doom tinged industrial metal passages.
The trade-off between Page’s guitar work and Ridgely’s penchant for digital and noise manipulation remains idiosyncratic when working in tandem to create a disquietingly avant-garde approach to their craft, with song arrangement and cohesive textured soundscapes reigning supreme. On the album’s B-Side, VICTIM UNIT’s vast array of influences are given free reign to paint outside of genre lines over 28 minutes and three tracks for a smorgasbord of noise, saxophone and jazz.
‘If Not, Y Not’’s cassette release will see all proceeds go toward Lotta’s top surgery, with two physical copies available on yellow / gold cassette as standard and the limited to 15 variant that comes alongside a zine.
