What’s on my Christmas Recital Programme List to Learn?
This year I will be doing a full Christmas music Organ recital - a first for me, as I haven’t really been learning the organ for very long I don’t have the “back catalogue” of music in my rep. So this is a mini challenge for December - perhaps I’m glutton for punishment 🤭🙉 but 4 months is a really long time to learn an hour programme of new music. Presented in no particular order!

On Friday we had the pleasure of meeting Rebekah Okpoti and presenting her with the first copy of her ' Anne Lister's Organ Sonata' which she then played in her recital at Leeds Minster.
This is a major substantial new organ work in many ways, apart from adding another composer to our catalogue it is also a piece with strong Northern England connections ( especially Halifax) and also written in a style that incorporates new styles of music for the Organ, its available on our website now as a printed copy and download, the story of its conception, its connection with Anne Lister, right through to its lead up premiere at Halifax minster in April is printed with the score

Feminine Interpretation… WHAT?
This clip was sent to me today from an audience member from St Ia’s @jeffrey_kernow it was from a lady audience member and she made a comment saying
“It May seem a strange thing to say… but I got you, I got the way you played, it was feminine it was complex… thank you, I’ve never heard it like that before, but then again I’ve never heard a female play the organ before”
It did make me smile a little, not because I’m a female organist particularly but because it opens up the idea of feminine interpretation of works.. is this something you have ever thought about before?
We often discuss particular well known Organists interpretation of works maybe Reger on Bach or Mark Rochesters 1991 Gramaphone review of Piet Lee’s Franck recordings etc … there are loads of them, we know this, BUT
what does feminine interpretation look like?
I don’t believe it is because I’m female specifically, - is it a rewording of the commonly used sensitive description etc? Or is there something else?
