Reclaiming our body wisdom means becoming sensitive to the touch of the world upon us, beginning to be aware of the thousands of emotional complexes that that touching generates, and beginning to decipher the meaning of those emotional complexes.

They are messages from the wisdom of our body about what it needs, about what the many parts of us need, about what we, as whole complex living beings, need in order to remain whole and healthy and ourselves.

Hustle culture and uber-productivity infect our society. Constant striving means if we stop working, we can feel insufficient compared to the ‘successful ones’.
I believe an important step on our personal and collective healing, is the permission to rest. To do nothing if we want to. And for housing, bills etc to be cheaper, so we don’t have to be perpetually working.
We are human BEINGS, not human doings after all.
That said, IF you feel called to action. If your wisdom wants you to create something, then I have no problem with productivity. Indeed I love self-development books and they have been essential to what impact I might be having with my work.
I believe for productivity to come from our wisdom, it needs to be in service of something bigger than ourselves. Not just personal success.
You’ve got to find out what that is for you. For me it is to be of service to the flourishing of life. And that gets me excited. That gets me up in the morning.

Where does the criteria for deciding whether you are enough come from? Babies are not born with low self-esteem, they don’t feel insecure, lack confidence or fear whether they are enough. These are all things that we learn.'

I’m single and sometimes I get stuck in thinking that I am not good enough, confident enough, funny enough to find a partner that resonates with me.

Here’s a mantra that has been transformational for building trust in myself:
“I trust the right person will meet me WHERE I AM.”

If we try to impress a potential partner, we are stuck in our heads, contriving ideas of what they want and who we should be. The consequence is a facade that will not lead to deep connection.

“I trust the right person will meet me where I am.”

I’ve found this phrase super liberating to remind myself that I only need to bring myself. We are enough, right here, right now. No “ifs”, no “when’s”.

And that includes when we’re single (happily with no intention for a relationship or wanting to connect). No conditions!

Thoughts, in words, popping into our heads is a super power.
BUT… we so easily believe thoughts that aren’t true.
Stories about how we “CAN’T do….“, “WON’T be able to…“, “DON’T DESERVE…..”
Let’s recognise our limiting beliefs for what they are:
Limiting beliefs are BU****IT ARISING IN CONSCIOUSNESS 💩
Once we recognise our thoughts are often fake news, can we PLAYFULLY extend KINDNESS to the bu****it?: “Ah yes, here is that HUMAN thing happening again.”
We are not just our thoughts. We have the freedom to not identify with or believe every thought that comes into our head.
Don’t limit yourself by believing your BS. You are capable of much more than can be captured with your thinking.
What is 1 limiting belief that has been bothering you recently?

How quickly can you forgive and let go?
Resentment is like drinking rat poison and expecting the rat to die. Resentment does not serve you.
You can still hold your boundaries/protect your energy AND let go of resentment.
The quicker we remember to let go of judgment and resentment, the quicker we return to our wisdom. Can you train this as a habit?

Throwback to Wudang’s amazing stars! Star photography is one of my joys. It’s amazing what leaving a camera shutter open for 15/20 seconds can capture.

If you leave it open any longer you begin to get motion blur because our planet is spinning on it’s axis 1000 miles an hour.

After moving the body and a gratitude practice, I then try to notice the thoughts popping into my head.

When I have thoughts of “I’m not good enough” I REMIND myself of who I really am. That you and I are manifestations of the mysterious intelligence of the Universe. Our value and beauty comes from our BEING, not what other people think about us.

How could we not be enough, when we are made up of star stuff?

Where our focus goes, our energy flows.

If I’m focussing on what I am lacking, I feel like I’m not enough.

If I instead choose to focus on what I am grateful for (family, friends, the planet, myself), that gratitude energises me and I feel better.

Change your focus, change your feeling.

Feeling anxious, not enough, confused, fearful?

Here’s how to change your state in three steps:

1. PHYSIOLOGY: move your body
2. FOCUS: change your focus
3. MEANING: notice your thinking, choose thoughts that empower

An example. I’m single and sometimes I get stuck in feelings of not being enough to find a partner that resonates with me.

When I NOTICE I’m stuck in this state that isn’t serving me, I first make myself BIG. I stand up, throw my hands up and say YES! to life.

This may feel fake but I find as I move my body, I become more playful, I might laugh at myself. And my mood begins to shift.

You look at children or you look at somebody who happens to be a very fine mover or dancer and you say, “That’s very graceful, that’s very nice.” And I would say you can do the same thing. You may not be able to kick your leg as high as someone else, but that’s not the point. That’s only a particular extension, a particular achievement.

The basic process in movement is a sense of awareness, and a sense of being.

When you feel like you’re together, you’re dancing.'

Here’s a practice to help you bring play into your everyday (yes, I like rhymes):

Have a track snack: press play once a day ▶️

Once a day, put a tune you like on and have a dance. Be silly, have a hip shake. Play is not just for kids.

If you notice that you find it hard to let go of yourself and relax into playful dance, awesome! That is a gift. You’ve become aware of some of your rigidity. Can you embody that rigidity in the dance? Get to know it, understand this part of yourself. If you don’t fight it, you’ll find that rigidity begins to soften.

Move your body, move your mind.

Judge actions, not people.

Our wisdom tells us that someone discriminating against another based on their race is wrong. And yet how constructive is it to judge the person as a racist bigot? This person must have gone through significant trauma for them to be triggered by something as arbitrary as the colour of another person's skin. If we are trauma aware we see that much of the wrong in the world emerges from pain passed down the generations. This perspective helps us connect with the humanity at the core of even ’those crazy people’. As we connect with their humanity, this opens the space for the person to connect with their own humanity — and the possibility of healing.

Healing begins when we meet ourselves, exactly where we are, with compassion.

Derek Lin on the skill of emotional alchemy:

🍃 When you mediate a dispute and diffuse an explosive situation: you have transformed harm into harmony.
🍃 When you lead by example and inspire other people to follow a positive path, you have transformed their potentiality for goodness into actuality.
🍃 Change apathy into empathy.
🍃 Change the meaningless into the meaningful.

Ian McGilchrist on the paradoxes at the heart of living:
⭐️ In order to be natural, we must not try to be so;
⭐️ If we wish happiness, it is fatal to pursue it;
⭐️ Freedom requires self-discipline; sometimes we must be cruel to be kind.
⭐️ Fear of pain leads to pain and fear
⭐️ So that they may be impervious to indoctrination, children must be indoctrinated in the principles of reason.

Alchemy is normally thought of as a fool's errand, someone trying to transform their chickpea cans into gold.

But spiritual alchemy is something deeper. For most people, the ‘bad' things that happen to them are the source of pain, sorrow, depression. For the spiritual alchemists, they can experience the exact same events and yet TRANSMUTE that experience into learning, into peace, into joy.

This is real magic. Magic only in the sense that most people would not think it was possible for them. But this sort of alchemy is very much possible. It is our birthright to be able to live a life of freedom and joy. It just takes practice and support to access this potential.

I used to think I was UNIQUELY messed up for being anxious. But talk to any of your friends and you’ll learn that you are not alone in your pain. To hurt is to be human.

Perfection is unattainable. Chasing perfection is a punishing path. What is available to us through practice, is to be better than yesterday. Can we give ourselves permission to take our journey step-by-step?

Lakoff and Johnson have done much to illuminate how the ‘time as resource’ metaphor changes our relationship with time. ‘Cultures in which time is not conceptualised and institutionalised as a resource’, they write, ‘remind us that time in itself is not inherently resource-like. There are people in the world who live their lives without even the idea of budgeting time or worrying if they are wasting it.’

This quote continues to inspire me from Brenee Brown!:

Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It’s about cultivating the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough. It’s going to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.

Do you sometimes feel self-conscious? Awkward? Worry what people think about you?

Tried some movement practice but felt “I’m not flexible enough”? “I’m not a good dancer so tai chi is not for me”?

I invite you to transform your perspective on your self-consciousness.

Instead of it being something BAD, can you see it as all ENERGY TO PLAY WITH?

Tai Chi is not just a movement practice it’s a philosophy for life.

Tai Chi invites us to accept EXACTLY where we are. Including all the RIGIDITY and SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS.

And the perplexing thing is that as accept ourselves, we begin to soften, we begin to flow, we begin to feel an ease and a joy.

I’m super excited to invite you to join me on an epic tai chi learning adventure where we’ll be live together on Zoom for 6x2-hour sessions:

Daoist Philosophy: Stories to help us find peace

2500 years ago, ancient China was in turmoil. Chaos reigned as warring Kings fought bloody battles to become emperor. New ideas were needed to return order to the land and peace to people’s hearts. One group of thinkers turned to nature for inspiration. Over generations, they developed powerful insights into how we can live in harmony with natural vitality. They became known as the Daoists.

I’ll share some of their most insightful stories at ✨ Joyful Tai Chi and Philosophical Stories✨

'Perhaps counterintuitively, love is far more ubiquitous than you ever thought possible for the simple fact that love is connection. It’s that poignant stretching of your heart that you feel when you gaze into a newborn’s eyes for the first time or share a farewell hug with a dear friend. It’s even the fondness and sense of shared purpose you might unexpectedly feel with a group of strangers who’ve come together to marvel at a hatching of sea turtles or cheer at a football game. The new take on love that I want to share with you is this: Love blossoms virtually anytime two or more people — even strangers — connect over a shared positive emotion, be it mild or strong.'

Love = connection explains why we feel more compassion and love as we deepen our understanding of who we are. When we realise that we are inseparably connected to everything in the Universe. We realise that everything ‘outside of us’ is in fact part of us. The natural consequence is an expansion of our circle of care to encompass all things.
