Soil and Sound is proud to welcome to the familia for our sixteenth instalment on our 10” dub series. Bringing those classic ‘purple’ grime & dubstep sounds to the table, Qwirk excellently composes crispy drum patterns, dark basses and soaring square wave melodies on his debut vinyl release.

A/ Chroma Violet

This bright and shimmering composition is hands-down 140 anthem material. Syncopated chords layered with sputtering synth plucks all backed up with a heavy, bouncing kit pattern. Paired with a crisp neo-grime influenced lead melody, this track is the definition of an “A side” tune.

B/ Cut Glass

A darker and colder tune, but cut from the same stylistic, nostalgic cloth. “Cut Glass” sets out with a huge brooding bassline, rumbling underneath a complex set of crispy drums, ghost notes galore. The track lets this dark passage lead up to a break where a bright plucked synth melody builds anticipation for a wild, stripped-back bass and drum drop.

For our first release of 2023, we have No Remørse providing the goods. This release has been in the making for a long while, and is one we’ve been excited to release into the world.

A/ Friday Night Chefin’

A dark and sorrowful 140 cut, this track strips back the layers and leaves depth and space for the piano and strings to echo around the woozy low end and crispy kit.

B/ IPA

This one is a dive into the dub-techno sound, No Remorse has conjured a heavy composition with just a hint of a psychedelic aesthetic, the grooves on this one are irresistible.

Label boss Alex finally makes his debut on Soil and Sound with the label's fourteenth 10" instalment.

Side A sees a collaboration with sitarist Tommy Khosla in a deep dub style. The sitar lead-line sings above a spaced-out heavy dub groove, making for a big mediative mood on the track.

Side B switches up the style, although the 130BPM tempo remains the same. This one comes in with a dark and industrial soundscape with large metallic stabs and a lamenting piano line.

We are incredibly proud to announce to you that Kami-O will be joining the Soil and Sound familia for our thirteenth instalment in the SASDUB series. Bringing his trademark sonic palette to the table, Kami-O blesses what is Soil and Sound’s first record of 2022 with two masterfully crafted pieces.

A/ Solitude

A perfect storm of influences are on show on the A-side track: “Solitude”. A singular atmospheric voice, echoing a style not unlike Najma Akhtar’s ambient tones, chants along with an immense soundscape that just swallows you up. This is met with a heavy and dynamic hand-drum arrangement that leads you into a lively, yet melancholy, plucked guitar line. At this point the rhythm is joined by a mighty halftime kit and bass, joining the already thunderous hand drum rhythm. Kami-O sculpted a true masterpiece for which we are proud to present to you.

B/ Wander

This time around Kami-O brings through an incredibly tight and melancholic piece of contemporary 2 Step. Approaching the timbres laced into the track with a slight orchestral aesthetic, paired with a clicking, syncopated drum rhythm that’ll cut through and stand out in any mix, and basses that’ll fill any room; Kami-O demonstrates his versatility in composing music across the 140bpm spectrum of genres and styles whilst maintaining his auditory signature in everything he arranges.

Our new record with Skruff | is available to stream and download from all your favourite stores.
This pictured is the (approved) test cut of the 7" vinyl which is being manufactured now. There are a few copies left on our bandcamp so make sure to secure one of those before they're gone (they come with the digitals!).
And these 7" sleeves will be stamped with the same stamps as the 10" ones, giving you that bespoke print on each copy.

It's been a long time coming, and for our final release of the year we have Maes and Masis collaborating on a single record.

A. Maes & Masis - What Do We Dub
Pairing up for a collaborative A-side track, we have a smooth, bassline-forward minimal piece, indicative of the two artist's respective styles. This one with echoing voices swirling around a deep stomping melody way down in the bassline and a flute reprise towards the end, rounding off of the track beautifully.

B. Maes - Treadin'
Another heavy track, hyped up by the man himself on his Soundcloud using a clip with only question marks for a name, Maes finally returns to Soil and Sound for another outstanding contribution after his debut two years ago. Coming through with a heavy-hitting 120bpm bassline, earth-shattering snares and vocals that reverberate all the way into the very deepest depths of your conscience. Can you tell we're very glad to have him back?

All records will be hand-cut by the dub-cutting master Henry Bainbridge at Dub Studio onto 10" transparent plates.
(yes they'll be sleeved in those pretty hand-stamped sleeves we put on our Instagram a couple days ago)

The man who started it all with us back in February 2019 is back once again to christen a new series for Soil and Sound. Skruff comes through with his meticulously crafted brand of downtempo, analog-drenched Dubtechno. With a vocal, echoing around the dark and smokey atmosphere of the track, only becomes more disjointed and ambient on the B side dub version.
