We are excited to be part of a special workshop, along with the amazing Tough Cookie Mag at The Feminist Bookshop on Wednesday 5th June, hosted by the brilliant Liberating Histories.

Liberating Histories tells the stories of the Women’s Liberation Movement through UK feminist magazines and connects these stories to women’s activism today.

In this interactive workshop, we’ll be thinking about the distinctive form of the zine, its relation to feminist activism and the role of print zines in the digital age. We’ll look at a range of feminist zines and magazines from the 1970s and 1980s including Spare Rib, Sappho, Red Rag, Shocking Pink, Mukti and Scarlet Women to reflect on questions such as:

- How does the form of the zine/magazine shape feminist debate?
- and What, if anything, distinguishes the debates of the Women’s Liberation Movement from contemporary feminist debates?

✂️All materials are included along with drinks and snacks.

Since creating the zine our calendar is packed with cool creative events. We really enjoy supporting the local artistic scene and we believe in the importance of doing so. We take these opportunities to network, meet new people and spread the world about our zine and our amazing contributors!

We visited Phoebe Wingrove amazing photo exhibition about Vaginismus at Phoenix Art Space. With mesmerising abstract images printed in fabric, it felt like being inside the body and you could really feel the pain vaginismus causes. Really looking forward to where Phoebe’s will take it next!

We attended a really interesting zine-making workshop with author Micha Frazer-Carroll at ONCA exploring the politics of mental health. Micha talked to us about her book “Mad World: The Politics Of Mental Health” and the radical history of zine-making in the context of mental health. This helped us reflect and think more critically about the ways we look at mental health and how society approaches it.

We saw Ultimate Tigerfrog (A collaboration between Reanna Valentine and Sekinue) perform for the first time and it was INCREDIBLE! It was an improv show with spoken word meets harp with background visuals by Aoife drawnfromtheether at The Rose Hill. We cried so much at the back of the room. After Ultimate Tigerfrog left the stage we were absorbed by Aoife’s visuals and music inspired by texture, nature and psychedelia.

We saw Short Rands “a collection of short films by contemporary South African filmmakers with themes ranging from fashion, archival q***r love, dark satire, the illusory reality of the internet” curated by Robyn Phillips & Anna Sephton at Fabrica gallery.

Reigning Women coincided with International Women’s Day and what a treat for us to see the 4 powerful and talented women in one night Scarlett Fae Sylvia Mwenzee AFLO. the poet, Kymara and Mally at The Old Market.

We finally went to CULT MILK Collage Club on a Monday evening and we had such a great time. Our inner competitive artists kicked in as soon as we knew there was a piece at the end of the evening for the most-voted collage and MNamug was one of the winners!

The lovely Zula Rabikowska and Vera Hadzhiyska Photography came down to Brighton to talk about their photography practice for a Brighton Photo Fringe event. It was so interesting to hear more about their projects and their collaboration together - they are both such an inspiration!

The opening of Devil's D**e Network exhibition at the The Ledward Centre on Q***r Feminist Joy organised by Claire BesselVessel was such a heartwarming event with Ahana performing an acoustic set.

We love the Writers Development Day South East Dance organised by Creative Future and Writers' & Artists' Yearbook. We learned so much about the writing and publishing world that day.

Pop us in the comments with any recommendations of things to do in Brighton and the surroundings in the following months!
