Four children found alive in Amazon after 40 days

Four children have been found alive after surviving a plane crash and spending weeks fending for themselves in Colombia's Amazon jungle.

Colombia's president said the rescue of the siblings, aged 13, nine, four and one, was "a joy for the whole country".

The children's mother and two pilots were killed when their light aircraft crashed in the jungle on 1 May.

The missing children became the focus of a huge rescue operation involving dozens of soldiers and local people.

Teenager kills eight children and a security guard in Belgrade school shooting

Eight children and a security guard have been killed after a 14-year-old boy opened fire on his teacher and other students in a school shooting in Serbia, the country's interior ministry has said.

The seventh-grade student used his father's gun for the attack at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school in the capital Belgrade, officers added.

Milan Nedeljkovic, mayor of the central Vracar district where the school is located, said the teacher is fighting for their life after being shot.

Six children who were injured are also being treated.

The suspect has been arrested with local media footage showing his head covered as officers led him to a car parked nearby.

Police have identified him only by his initials KK and said he was arrested in the schoolyard.

Officers in helmets and bulletproof vests have cordoned off the area after the shooting at around 8:40am local time (7:40am UK time).

A pensioner was left bloodied and bruised after becoming the latest casualty of an "optical illusion" cycle lane - which caused him to fall over twice in one morning.

Dave Dawson, 76, was visiting the high street in Keynsham, Somerset, on Thursday when he sustained injuries to his hands and knees as he stepped off the curb's edge.

It was revealed 59 people had previously been injured on the street since the cycle lane was installed last year. Dawson, who is retired, spoke about being the lane's latest victim.

“I was walking along the pavement, and it’s sort of like an optical illusion," he said. "It looks as if it's all level. I was walking back towards the church and stepped with my right foot on the edge of the pavement because it looked flat, and I lost my balance and fell down.

Jasmine Hartin pleads guilty to manslaughter by negligence after police officer shot in Belize

The body of 42-year-old Henry Jemmott was found on a pier in the town of San Pedro after reports of a gunshot in May 2021.

The former partner of Conservative grandee Lord Ashcroft's son Andrew entered the plea at the Supreme Court in Belize City over the death of 42-year-old Henry Jemmott. Her trial had been due to start today.

Outside the court, Hartin said: "I just want Henry's family to have peace now and I want this whole thing behind all of us so we can heal,".

A 15-year-old had gone out armed with a knife and when he got into a confrontation with a group of other teens in Gateshead, he used the blade to stab 14-year-old Tomasz Oleszak to death. He had denied murder, claiming he was acting in self-defence after coming under attack

Officer Rex Engelbert opening fire with a rifle several times on Audrey Hale before the perpetrator falls to the ground injured. Hale, 28, is then hit by a second volley of bullets.

Audrey Hale who identified as a transgender male and was a former student of the private Christian school, killed three pupils aged nine and three adults before being stopped.

The nine-year-old was killed at her home in Dovecot, Liverpool, in August last year after a gunman chased convicted burglar Joseph Nee into her home. Thomas Cashman denies murder and is on trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Thomas Cashman, the man accused of murdering nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel in Liverpool last August, is innocent, an alibi witness has told Manchester Crown Court.

Nicky McHale told a jury he saw Cashman, 34, smoking cannabis in a garden around the time of the shooting at about 10pm on August 22.

Mr McHale, 32, said he had been watching football on TV at home on Snowberry Road, Dovecot, and when the match had finished he went outside to smoke a cigarette.

Police release CCTV image in search for missing 15-year-old Faith Marley last seen meeting man in Glasgow
Police Scotland say the teenager, from the Leith area of Edinburgh, travelled to Glasgow by bus where she was seen on CCTV meeting with a man.

Faith Marley, from the Leith area of Edinburgh, was last seen at Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow on Wednesday morning.

Police Scotland say the teenager travelled to Glasgow on a Citylink number 900 bus.

She arrived at the bus station around 11.05am and was spotted on CCTV meeting with a man - who police believe to be aged between 20 and 30 years old - shortly after 11.20am.

The pair then left the bus station in the direction of North Hanover Street.

Police operation to arrest Imran Khan suspended amid standoff with supporters of formerPakistani leader

Police in Lahore have been ordered to suspend an operation to arrest Imran Khan until 10 a.m. local time on Thursday, following a violent standoff with supporters of the former Pakistani prime minister outside his residence in the city.

Clashes had been taking place between police and Khan's supporters as officers attempted to arrest the embattled opposition leader for not showing up to court on corruption charges.

The intervention from the Lahore High Court Wednesday was made due to security concerns around a high-profile cricket match taking place in the city, with the judge citing the need to "maintain peace," two Pakistani government officials familiar with the matter .

Growing concern for teenage girls Crystal Pond and Tamzin Mitchell last seen in Portrush

Police say there is growing concern for the whereabouts of two teenage girls who were last seen on Wednesday 8 March.

The PSNI say Crystal Pond and Tamzin Mitchell were last seen around 8pm on Eglinton Street in Portrush.

Inspector Hewat said: "Tamzin, who is 15, is approximately 5ft tall, of medium build and has long, dyed red hair. She was last seen wearing a navy hooded top, navy coat, dark trousers and black trainers.

"Crystal, aged 14, is approximately 5ft 4 in height, of medium build and has long, black hair. She also has a nose piercing. She was last seen wearing a black / grey 'North Face' hooded top and white and grey trainers.

"At this time, we believe both girls to be in each other's company. They may have travelled to the Ballymena, Belfast, Antrim or Magherafelt areas.

Man claims they helped his now-ex-wife obtain medication for an abortion in Texas in latest test of state enforced bans

a lawsuit filed late Thursday in Galveston county, Marcus Silva alleges assisting in a self-administered abortion is tantamount to aiding a murder. Silva is seeking $1m in damages.

The woman who took the medication in July – weeks after the supreme court struck down the constitutional right to abortion that had been in place since 1973 – is not named in the lawsuit. Texas law protects women who get an abortion from being held liable.

Police investigating after man grabs eight-year-old boy during school run in Somerset

The boy was walking to school in Cedar Grove, Yeovil with his mother and another child in a pushchair when a car pulled up alongside them on Monday 6 March.

A man got out of the driver’s seat and took hold of the eight-year-old. His mother held onto him, shouting at the man who then drove off towards Preston Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following the incident.

The man is described as being aged 30 to 40, about 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build with broad shoulders. He had olive brown skin, dark-coloured hair in a quiff style and a beard.

Cardiff car crash: Sister of victim 'disappointed' with police and says detectives 'should have acted straight away'

A vigil held for the victims saw crowds of people congregate with balloons, flowers and messages, while fireworks were let off to pay tribute.

Eve Smith, 21, Darcy Ross, 21, and Rafel Jeanne, 24, died in the crash, while Sophie Russon, 20, and Shane Loughlin, 32, who were in the same vehicle, are in hospital with serious injuries.

All five were in a Volkswagen Tiguan that came off the A48(M) in the Welsh capital and crashed into trees.

Police in Wales searching for five people who went missing after a night out say they have found three bodies.

Gwent Police also say two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

It comes after the force released an appeal for information on the whereabouts of Sophie Russon, 20, Eve Smith, 21, and Darcy Ross, 21.

They were last seen in the Llanedeyrn area of Cardiff at around 2am on Saturday morning, having travelled to the Welsh capital from the town of Porthcawl.

The three women, all from Newport, South Wales, had made the trip in a Volkswagen Tiguan with two men, Rafel Jeanne, 24, and Shane Loughlin, 32, both from Cardiff, who were also reported as missing.

Rishi Sunak vows to end asylum claims from small boat arrivals

Anyone arriving in the UK on a small boat will be prevented from claiming asylum, under new laws expected to be announced next week.

Ministers will have a duty to "detain and swiftly remove" anyone who comes to the UK through that route, said Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

The prime minister has already said that "stopping the boats" is one of his five priorities.

Charity the British Red Cross called the plans "extremely concerning".

Lady Gaga dognapping: Woman charged over dog theft is now suing star over $500,000 'no questions asked' reward

French bulldogs Koji and Gustav were stolen at gunpoint as they were being walked in LA by dog walker Ryan Fischer while Lady Gaga was out of the country in 2021. Fischer was wounded in the dognapping and five people in total have been charged in connection with the theft.

James Howard Jackson, one of three men and two accomplices who allegedly participated in the violent robbery, pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder in December 2022, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said, and was sentenced to 21 years in prison.

Urgent search for baby as Constance Marten and Mark Gordon arrested

A massive search is under way for a missing baby after a couple - Constance Marten and Mark Gordon - were found and arrested in Brighton.

Their baby was thought to be days old when the couple disappeared in January.

The pair have been arrested by Suss*x Police on suspicion of child neglect, but their baby has not been found.

Officers are scouring an allotment and golf course on the Suss*x Downs, in an "urgent search" involving helicopters, drones and police dogs.

Ms Marten and Gordon, a convicted s*x offender, were found after being spotted by a member of the public in the Fiveways area of north Brighton on Monday evening.

Italy migrant deaths: At least 59 dead after boat gets into trouble in Calabria

At least 59 bodies - including a baby - have been recovered after a migrant boat broke apart in rough seas off the southern coast of Italy’s mainland, authorities have said.

Among those who died in the incident was a few months old baby, Italian news agency AGI has said.

Italy's Fire and Rescue service confirmed 59 victims have been recovered with divers and rescue teams still searching for survivors

The boat was carrying more than 100 migrants when it ran into trouble at dawn in the Ionian Sea, according to port authorities near the coastal town of Crotone, in Calabria, the toe of the Italian peninsula.
