The good news is that the beaches of Cala en Porter and Son Bou now have the green flag for swimming. However, The mayor is very angry that efforts to restore Cala en Porter beach have been blocked. He explained that, despite the intense and coordinated efforts between the Balearic Government, the Island Council of Menorca and the Alaior Town Hall to prepare the land and obtain the necessary authorisations, the Ministry of Ecological Transition denied at the last minute the permits for the machines to be able to enter to work on the recovery of the beach.

No wind on the first day of the Copa del Rey but some lovely photos of the crews making the most of their time in Mahón. There was hope for some wind at noon but at 14:30 the anemometer was reading 0.5 knots NNE and the sea surface was what in Menorcan is called “una bassa d’oli”. Impossible conditions for sailing.

Graham Byfield and his son Stefan will be opening the doors of Graham's Gallery in Es Migjorn tonight and tomorrow (whilst Migjornale is on) and also on MONDAY! Dot is Missing!!! 😢. Please look out for Rachael's pot bellied pig which has gone missing in the storm in the area of countryside around Hort de Llucassaldent. Those of you that enjoy Rachael's stories in Roqueta will know that she is distraught and has been out searching all day.

A huge downpour of 200 litres per square metre caused the Es Mercadal torrent to overflow its banks yesterday afternoon, sweeping away street furniture and cars in its path. In Alaior people also had to be rescued when they became trapped in their houses and cars and Cala en Porter was badly hit. Roads were closed and flights were cancelled causing general chaos. We will be thinking of everyone today who has been affected by the storm as they try to assess the damage.
