As a string quartet, we are blessed with an endless repertoire of gems from all the great composers, which quartets from every generation have diligently committed to vinyl and disc. The quartets of Beethoven, for example, one of which we also decided to record for our second album, have a boundless catalogue of recordings for seemingly every musical taste. The quartet of Imogen Holst, “Phantasy”, however, perhaps due to its brevity or her generally narrow oeuvre, has managed to fly under the radar for long enough. We find that it is a gem worth hearing boundless interpretations of, and we are excited to put her work under the spotlight.

/// New Release 8 November 2024 /// In 2023, Marion Ravot's single 'Morgen!' passed the mark of one million streams. Since then, it has raked in over 500,000 more. Now, she follows up with her debut album: 'Voyages' is a self-portrait of this rising harpist. It takes the listener on a journey through the three cities that shaped her most – Paris, New York and Berlin – and the pieces she associates with her time there. The music is diverse and sprawling, featuring J.S. Bach alongside French composers and a meditative piece by Markus Reuter, written especially for her.

Making use of innovative rehearsal techniques, their second studio album builds on these experiences and documents their growth as musicians. It combines Beethoven with Szymanowski's meditative first quartet, adding feminist composer Imogen Holst's magical “Phantasy Quartet.” This blend of core repertoire with discovery is set to mark them as the quartet to watch.

Ethel Smyth's 'Serenade in D' was ignored in its time as she struggled for recognition from male critics, and even her own family. The second half features works by Inti Figgis-Vizueta and Ying Wang , revolving around social issues, politics, physics and artificial intelligence. Guided by reflektor's principal conductor Holly Hyun Choe , this was a passion project true to their declared vision of a music culture without boundaries.
