Since listening to DJ BORING’s earworm spawning productions and witnessing his high NRG mixes, we knew we had to ask him to compile this issue of DJ-Kicks.
“At first, I was going to do something completely different – it was just going to be dance music! But I think a lot of people like the at-home listening aspect, and that really resonated with me – it’s what I enjoy. Supercontinent EP from Kassian out now!
Their second release for !K7 Records was built in their hardware-forward studio in a Northeast London container complex. This renewed focus brought them to Supercontinent EP, named for the ancient geological era when Africa and South America were joined as Pangea.
A reformulation of rhythmic ideas inspired by South African Amapiano and South American Baile Funk governs the two hemispheres of the record. The pair examine and deconstruct dancefloor material, eschewing 4/4 for interlocking shaker patterns, searing acid lines, cracking breakbeats, and vocal samples in Zulu and Brazil Portuguese.

Stereo MCs' DJ-Kicks turns 25 this month 📀
A decade after their debut album established Stereo MC's as one of the UK's foremost rap crews, they returned with a DJ-Kicks mix that traces the links between classic American hip-hop and the British post-rave dance scene.
Their crates are deep: They routinely dig back to vintage tracks like 1981's "Do It, Do It," by the oft-sampled Harlem group the Disco Four, or Kool G Rap and DJ Polo's "Road to the Riches," from 1989, and for scene-setting, they even avail themselves of library music from the '60s and '70s.
The set is peppered with cuts reminding listeners that the era was a golden age for boom-bap production and hard- hitting bars-Ultramagnetic MC's' "Poppa Large," Divine Styler's "Tongue of Labyrinth," Hieroglyphics' "At the Helm"--but selections from Sofa Surfers, The Herbaliser, and Red Snapper also show the ways that American hip-hop was breeding new directions in trip-hop across the Atlantic.
How you know that this is a truly old-school mix: At times, you can actually hear the clicks and pops of the group's vinyl. It's the sound of rap history playing out in real time.

Paul Frick on their evolution to a ten-piece orchestral work: "On 'You Make Me Real', we still used some effects and more synths, whereas 'Mr. Machine' is completely unplugged, except for the Moog synth, which is amplified through a bass guitar amp. 'You Make Me Real' was still "produced". On 'Mr. Machine' there's nothing like that at all."
Eddington Again – 'Petrify (Airynore Remix)' is out today 💎
Here's Eddington on how this collaboration with the California based producer came about: "I came across Airynore on Soundcloud after listening to his remix of Oklous' entire album 'Galore'. I was obsessed with listening to it so I reached out and asked if he would be interested in remixing 'Naomi9'.
He ended up telling me that he really loved 'Petrify' and that he wanted to give a remix a try and this is what he sent me after I agreed. It's a wild flip of the original and the grunge vibes really elevate and send it into a different sphere for me."

SUCHI's new track “Ghungroo” is a homage to her early years and named after the small metallic bells, which are also worn as ornament, strung around the ankles of classical Indian dancers.

Ghungroos hold a vital and important place in Indian Classical Dance, acting not only as an instrument producing sound but also as an ornament, worn around both ankles. These bells are either strung together by cords or woven into a belt. They produce sounds of varying pitches depending on the metallic composition and its size. A dancer can wear anything between 50 to 200 bells knotted together.

Five years ago to the day, Leon Vynehall released his milestone DJ-Kicks, contributing to the series with a richly layered affair filled with curveballs and a wealth of adventurous ideas that he pulled off with confidence and style.
Vynehall's mix, which goes from 79-169bpm in fluid fashion is distinctly diverse both in genre and tempo, working in a range of settings, as was the artist’s aim.
