On August 16, 2019, the Silk Road International Horse Culture Festival 2019 successfully concluded its first press conference in Xi’an’s picturesque Qujiang Tang Park, sharing the event’s ambitious goals of turning Xi’an into a pinnacle of horse culture and tourism, and showing exceptional support for realizing this vast project from the side of sponsors and supporting organizations.
Xi’an, the starting point of the old Silk Road, has always been China’s symbolic city in cultural, historic and urban development terms. This place is not only famous for its terracotta soldiers, but is also famous for new inventive ideas, for being one of the drivers of the organic development of Chinese cities. Aligning with the New Silk Road and Belt and Road initiatives, based on four key directions of “Culture, Tourism, Education, Investment”, the Northwest Branch of China Industrial Development Research Institute, Xi’an Equestrian Association, Xi’an Intangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Association, Shanxi Qingbei Cultural Development Co.,Ltd. and Chang’an Equestrian Club launched a huge project to, based on China’s historic equestrian culture, turn Xi’an into a modern day equine centre.
This would include the organization of horse industry congress, four major symposiums, exhibitions, junior equestrian championships and building a first class cultural tourism center, which hopefully is going to become the biggest horse culture tourism project. In 2012, the city is bound to organize the National Games in 2021 for the first time, also including equestrian events. The masterminds behind the project are doing everything they can to assure that locals who are not pursuing equestrian professionally, and most importantly children also feel welcome and encouraged by these developments, and that their newly gained inspiration would build equestrian into Xi’an’s urban culture.
In his speech at the World Conference of Akhal-Teke Horse Association and China Horse Culture Festival on May 12, 2014, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping declared the importance of horses in Chinese culture, expressing his hopes that the nation would stand up to the great mission of rejuvenating the country as relentlessly as ten thousand horses running on the vast lands not acknowledging any obstacles ahead.
Since then, it cannot be emphasized enough how much the Belt and Road initiative affects all aspects of life since its creation throughout China. Being one of the most influential countries in modern history, China’s development brought along the emergence of many inspiring projects that are also trying to heal current problems and offer cross-field solutions with tourism, education or the green sector.
Xi’an’s new plan to establish the tradition of a Silk Road International Horse Festival shows how much China is striving to become a good example in the world with creative, substantial and most importantly sustainable projects that cherish all living creatures involved, transfer immense cultural values and asks next generations to be conscious of the ways of development, preserve nature while showing that environment, competitions, tourism activities and entertainment can have a symbiotic relationship. There is no doubt that a country that already created countless miracles in history, and a city that never stops to amaze the country, will be successful in the ex*****on of all the above mentioned.
