So sad 😞 - Emara was a pro amoungst PROS.
Sudden tragic loss always leaves so many questions, thoughts of what could be done differently - these are normal grieving processes. If you are looking for ways to heal, we suggest supporting any animal - in any way.

Further to the recent heartbreaking news of the passing of our female Masai giraffe, ‘Emara’, we can confirm that her death was a tragic accident.

Members of our Animal Care, Health & Welfare team found the 12-year-old Masai giraffe unresponsive against the fence in the African Savannah Yard early morning on Friday, May 19, 2023. A complete necropsy was conducted and revealed that Emara died quickly due to a broken neck – a small comfort for the staff and volunteers that loved and cared for her to know she did not suffer.

Emara was known for her cautious yet curious personality and her gentle nature. From the staff and volunteers who loved and cared for her to the visitors she inspired each visit, Emara will be missed by all.

We appreciate all the love and support we have received following the news of Emara’s passing. Her legacy lives on through our memories and those she has inspired over the years as an ambassador for her species. Please continue to share your fond memories of Emara and condolences to her care team in the comments below as we continue to mourn this sudden loss.

UPDATE 1 June 2023. "The missing Gibsons female has been located safe. Thank you for your assistance."
: Sunshine Coast RCMP are looking for public's assistance locating 57 year old Gibsons woman, Susan Turrell.

Susan was last seen in the 700 block of School Road in Gibsons on Wednesday, May 24th. Susan is described as a Caucasian woman, 5'3", medium build with hazel eyes and long brown hair. Susan is often seen riding her silver and black bicycle and may have gone to Vancouver. If you have any information or have seen Susan Turrell, please call the Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266. File # 2023-3421
