One week from @bmovanmarathon by @runvancanada. Here’s a little recap of what happened last Sunday and some thoughts and lessons I learned from this entire experience:
1. NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF: When things might not go as planned, there are always different gears to choose from. Considering my injury weeks prior, I had to positively change my mindset to run and enjoy regardless of whether I could finish the race or not. It was a big adjustment in my mindset as I had trained so hard for this for 4 months. It was a big shift.
2. BAD FUELLING STRATEGY: Due to my excitement for this event, I totally forgot to fuel with electrolytes the night before. I was traveling to Vancouver and barely drank water just to get to the event to pick up my race bib. I also took the drink in the morning which I was supposed to drink the night before, resulting in an upset stomach before 10KM.
4. Be prepared for the worst things that could happen. I know it’s hard to think ahead of what will happen during the race because all runners could agree that every race is different. Things are not always perfect. In fact, no race day is perfect. So prepare for possible scenarios, for example, for an upset stomach. Train yourself using the gels you will use for race day. If you start to feel discomfort, just go and find the nearest porta potty and relieve that discomfort. If not, you will suffer from keeping it. The worst could happen :)
5. BE KIND TO YOURSELF: A goal is a goal. You may not achieve your goal time, but there’s always the next run and a time to come back stronger. Give yourself credit for everything you have done from the beginning to the end. You may be inconsistent in following your program, but take those credits for the days you showed up.
6. BE GRATEFUL: Be grateful for your body, every inch of your body, cells, muscles, etc. Thank them. They worked so hard for this race. Be grateful for the people around you, the people who showed up for the event, the organizers, the
There’s a reason I walk like this!

Sad reality for new runners like me: getting injured weeks before the race you worked hard for. Four months of consistent training to achieve a PB for my second marathon, but that might not happen.
I really do not know what I am feeling right now, but this won’t stop me from enjoying this moment. My first out-of-town race, @bmovanmarathon! I am going to see your crowd!

Getting into the mindset that running is a way for me to relax.
Side note: In today’s run, I passed so many running groups this morning. I bet everyone is getting ready for the last weekend before the @tc10k next week. I am so excited to see people show up for this big event!

This one deserves a treat! 🍌🍞☕️
Yesterday, I finally completed my last 32KM run before my first marathon this year. It’s been 4 months of consistent running (4x a week). As a new runner like me, seeing this long run on my schedule affects me mentally. But as I pushed through it and completed it, it was the best feeling. It was hard but gratifying. I am 3 weeks away from racing in my first out-of-town marathon, @bmovanmarathon.
As you all know, I am also gearing up for my first race (1 week before the marathon), the @tc10k @runsportyyj on April 28. I am beyond grateful to be part of this event and to be able to share my running journey with everyone. Thank you, @tc10k team!
