GINATAANG BILO-BILO
(Sticky Rice Balls in Coconut Milk & Sugar)

Ginataang Bilo-Bilo is a Filipino native snack or dessert made of small glutinous balls in coconut milk and sugar. Added ingredients are jackfruit, sweet potatoes, saba or bananas and tapioca pearls. It is a great comfort food, especially on a rainy day.

In our province Benguet where we grew up, it is commonly called "Tambong Tambong". It is one of our mom's specialty. I remember my mamu would buy fresh glutinous rice (diket) and fresh coconut (niyog) from the local marketplace then bring it to the grinder afterward. She would make her own fresh coconut milk or "gata" by simply pressing or squeezing the ground coconut meat (from matured coconuts or niyog) with water. According to her it is the best way to ensure that you are having your purest "gata" and it's what certainly gives its very tasty flavor. No wonder why it was always requested during special gatherings in our house and I even remember, we hardly had leftovers with everyone happily digging in to the last drop or asks us to save some for take out!😀

And so being away from home and living abroad just makes us crave for this native delicacy! That is why we made our own version using ingredients that are readily available from the market or Asian groceries. They say "Nothing is better than mother's cooking" and I totally agree with that but yes, give this recipe a try as our cravings were greatly satisfied!

Siopao is a Philippine cuisine version of the Cantonese steamed bun. It is made of soft and fluffy bread with sweet, savory meat and egg filling. This siopao version has the perfect dough, filling and sauce! These are just as good as the store-bought steamed hot buns or even better!

(Mung Bean Stew)

Ginisang Monggo is one of the most popular and favorite Filipino carinderia vegetable dish. It is cheap, versatile and very filling in the sense that any toppings or "sahog" can be used. In this video, we have used pork hock or "pata ng baboy" and pork crackling or "chicharon" as the ingredient for our "sahog".
