On Sunday, June 23 hosted the welcome dinner for the annual Rootstock Wine Symposium with at .to. .by.renee lead the evening, and paired five Rueda wines with a Spanish meal! Three additional wines were enjoyed in the patio before dinner. We had special guests in attendance learning all about Rueda, and wines available in market. Here are a few images from the evening.
And the Rueda fun continues! Starting July 7, you can stop by and try one of eight wines that will be part of their wine-by-the-glass program! You can grab a glass for $8 from July 7-August 18, wines are rotating, lots to try!

Happy World Verdejo Day!
World Verdejo Day is a day to celebrate the 1000-year-old indigenous white grape, Verdejo, from D.O. Rueda! Rueda is the only region that specializes in white wine production and is the second best-selling wine in Spain (considering red, rosé and white wines) after Rioja. Rueda’s market share in Spain is 42% and ranks #1. Also the region has over 40% of the wineries featuring female winemakers.
D.O. Rueda’s wine production dates back to the 16th century and now the appellation has 79 wineries with over 1,580 vine-growers. The region is located 170 km northwest of Madrid, near the River Duero, and the appellation is one of the only areas in Europe to have pre-phylloxera vineyards. What makes the Verdejo varietal so special is the unique palette of aromas and flavors that are so distinctive. Wines made from Rueda Verdejo display touches of wild herbs, fresh hay and fennel that mingle with intense fruit and refreshing acidity. If you have visited Spain before, you have probably had one (or more) wines from this region.
