This isn't just my first balcony selfie, this is a testimonial. I think I have found my summer "jam" (as the kids say). Most of the music I like is, let's face it, too fast for hot weather. I admit it. I do love reggae, especially on the really hot days, but let's face it, after awhile it's just too damn slow.

Right now I am on the balcony chilling to The Mooks new release Come On & Save Me. Great googly moogly! This is a wonderous mash up of reggae, blues, ska, soul, R&B & rockabilly. Their version of Eddie Cochran's "20 Flight Rock" alone is reason enough not to jump off of your 20th floor balcony. Covers by artists you may know (Andre Williams, Rex Garvin, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, reggae pioneer Derrick Harriott) and artists that I now want to search out. (Jory Kinjo from Calgary, this means YOU!) Singer and Mook, Vic Ruggerio wrote the hilarious love song "Sarah" for Come On An Save Me. It kinda of reminds me of J.J. Cale, same mellow, let's-chill-on-a-summer-day vibe. The best thing about this recording is that it's hard to categorize, it's such a glorious gumbo of all these different delicious genres and songs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SIMMER LISTENING! (No payola of any kind was exchanged for this endorsement, Christ, I even paid for the download instead of begging for one. Great, I'm hooked, addicted to music. The coolest music on a hot day starts in an hour. Punk rock & whamma blamma songs about summer with a few hippie hummables thrown in.

Although there are a number of beach songs I was never comfortable at the beach. It got embarrassing with the Greenpeace volunteers always trying to roll me back into the water. Seriously though, I'm proud to say I was a river rat and not a beach bum.

Yeah, yeah, yeah....I know, it's too hot to dance...Not if you give yourself into your sweat glands. Will you sweat? You bet! Will it smell? I don't care, I can't smell it. That's the joy of radio!

Did ya tune in and hear my show on the radio yesterday? Of course you didn't....Don't lie...The radio station's transmitter was down during my show. I'd love to blame it on a Canadian folk music conspiracy against Renny's Riot, for not playing Gordon Lighfoot, nor Ian & Syvia. The folkies resent all the rock & roll I play, but unfortunately the truth is that CKCU is using parts that were second hand when the were bought in the Eighties. Listener supported radio on a shoestring.
