"Wild Thang, you make my heart sang"
Once again, the annual World’s Ugliest Dog contest has unearthed some truly scruffy characters. It was held last Friday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California.
Wild Thang, an 8-year-old Pekingese, was crowned the winner this year and collected the $5,000 prize after five previous attempts! One of the judges, Fiona Ma told the Associated Press, “He was a fan favourite … he’s kind of like the bridesmaid and never the bride.”
As a puppy, Wild Thang contracted a virus that nearly killed him and left him with permanent damage. His teeth never developed, so his tongue flops out, and his right front leg paddles all the time.
“He is just a sweet dog” said the Judge. “I was just holding him and he loves to be held and cuddled. That’s part of it, these rescue dogs.., they just need forever homes, so please adopt, don’t shop.”
Organizers say the World’s Ugliest Dog contest isn’t about making fun of the dogs, “but having fun with some wonderful characters and showing the world that these dogs are really beautiful!”... in their own way.

The Snowbirds and the Italian Air Force's demonstration team Frecce Tricolori will fly over the National Capital Region today.

Weather permitting, a series of flypasts over Ottawa and Gatineau will happen at approximately 12:15 p.m.

The formation will follow a west-east route along the Ottawa River, flying at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route.

The Google "Doodle" accompanying Google’s home page last Friday, timed to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day, features the artwork of Shaikara David - an Indigenous artist who grew up in Akwesasne but now calls Ottawa Home.
According to an article in the Ottawa Citizen, Shaikara is a self-acknowledged "computer kid" who was into Japanese anime and manga. She studied animation and illustration at Algonquin College in Ottawa. Since then, she has gone on to create artwork for projects featured on Netflix and Disney+.
Her Indigenous People’s Day illustration features two women amid the blue-and-purple lakeside backdrop, with mountains in the distance and a glowing moon representing the second "o" in "Google." The women's flowing ribbons are woven into the environment.
