TEASER TRAILER RELEASED! From our first filming adventure in Patagonia to the continued mammoth development efforts in creating this expedition documentary, we are excited to finally share a small sneak peek of this incredible project and what we’ve been up to these last six months!

‘Wings of Survival’ follows Dr. TIMM DÖBERT (Ecologist & Explorer) and LEANNA CARRIERE (Extreme Endurance Athlete) on their self-powered 30,000km traverse across the Americas. In June 2024, the duo will set out in Alaska’s High Arctic, cycling and pack rafting for eight months across the world’s westernmost migratory bird corridor to the tip of South America. Motivated by a passion for planetary and human health, their ground-breaking journey blends extreme sports, scientific exploration and conservation. The remarkable feats of avian ‘athletes’, portrayed through the lens of human adventure, aims to challenge the perception of our place in the web of life and inspire change.

We’ve been getting our styles on recently, while developing a fascinating prehistory mini-documentary about a natural phenomena that lies deep beneath our feet. What is this you may ask?Well, it’s the 12,000 year old riverbed that’s actually still buried deep beneath Edmonton, Alberta, that miraculously holds water which eventually makes its way up through this hidden natural spring full of colorful minerals, of course! What’s the fascinating and sacred byproduct of this colorful sludge that’s been used for thousands of years... good question!
You’ll just have to watch the documentary once it’s released to find out.
Last week, we ventured out into the woods to test out some of our camera rigs to film in these very challenging locations and situations. Let us know what you think of our test shots! Any we should perfect for the real-deal?

Location, Location, Location!

Whether it's picking your first store-front location for your growing business or picking out your next house, its locaton is more important than one might think.

For us as video producers, picking the perfect location to best feature and represent our subject or client is paramount. It can show the world the 'who, what, where, when, why and how' of the subject, all in one shot. It both physically and subcontiously represents the subjects persona, lifestyle and status. When relying on visuals to tell a story, the location quickly becomes the centre of attention.

We sometimes scout potential filming locations for weeks before deciding on an optimal space to represent our subject in their video or commercial.

Take this music video shoot for example. The artists wanted seperate storylines that narratively juxtaposed eachother to be visualized in the video. To us, that mean't nature vs urban metropolis. Nothing better exemplifies a visual contradiction than natural vs fabricated.

We then needed to come up with a neutral location where both characters could co-exist within the story of the music video. This ended up being an empty warehouse space where we utilized various lighting techniques and tricks to help continue the storyline. These techniques were chosen to take the viewer from a subcontious feeling of intimate claustrophobia that the characters were going through, into a burst of freedom.

Check out the screenshots from the video and let us know if you think the locations did the trick. We will be sharing clips of the music video in our next post, so keep your eyes out to see how these still images translate into moving artistry!
