They're more than just their age and their hometown, and it is these additional characteristics that may lead them to connecting with you and purchasing your product or service.

How can you harness the power of this information to target particular customers? It all starts with creating a persona. Here's a simple guide to get you started ✨

1️⃣ Research: Dig into any market research available to you to understand your target audience's demographics, income, interests, and preferences. What do they do as a hobby? What is their job and how much income might they earn?

Hands up if you get stuck on how often to post 🙋🏼‍♀️ Honestly, same.

There is so much information out there telling you to post daily, three times a week or reels on every other day.

It’s actually quite simple - the most effective and efficient thing you can do is just post quality, regularly. And by regularly we mean at least a few times a week if you can, so aim for at least three.

You see as long as you are posting relevant content that engages with your audience often enough, you are keeping those spikes of reach, impressions and engagement high! The more consistently you do this, the more your brand awareness increases.

More particularly, let’s talk about why you should consider search engine optimisation (SEO) a part of your social media strategy.

SEO is used to make your business listing more visible to consumers searching for a product or service.

Now it is important to note, SEO is a complex topic and we definitely recommend seeking out a professional to get the most out of it, as it is far more difficult than just links and keywords.

But for the purpose of this post, we’ll talk basics. If someone were to search “accommodation in Winton QLD” on a search engine, a bot would crawl any relevant website or webpage and rank the search results.

While your social media doesn’t directly impact your search engine ranking, it can lend your business some level of prominence through sharing content and links, keywords etc.

Additionally, social media platforms themselves are becoming a more popular tool for research, with 1 in 3 people using social media channels to research brands and products. With recent improvements in search capabilities of platforms like Instagram, it is now even easier to discover brands using keyword, location and hashtag searches.

G’day! It’s been a while.

We’ve been off tackling some life admin but while we were away, our stats have taken a hit if we are honest - and we strive to be. At the risk of judgement, it’s given us a bit of an opportunity to talk about consistency, engagement and scheduling.

These graphs show two things: our Instagram reach and our Instagram profile visits. We could go into other data but let’s keep it simple here.
Those peaks? That’s when we posted something, reached our audience, engaged with our feed and had a bunch of profile visits. Those troughs? Next to nothing.

Keep in mind, this is a 90 day view and our social accounts have only been active for about that time, during which we have focused on discovery and growing our brand. If you were to look an established profile, you may see a very different trend.

These graphs show us how a consistent schedule and quality content can grow your audience and move potential customers through your funnel. This is especially important if you are a new business trying to establish yourself. Fun fact, it takes AT LEAST 90 days of consistency to see tangible results.

Let's talk about aspect ratio and why size matters📱

Social media platforms such as Meta - also known as Facebook - have a set of guidelines which outline their preferred aspect ratios for content. These guidelines give you all the specs and even tell you when to use it and why! It is literally a guide to creating content that performs well. We've done you a solid and included them in this post.

Why is it important to follow these guidelines? Well you use the wrong format in the wrong placement, your content won't be suited to that placement. It may be distorted, may not too little or too much negative space, may stretch or compress and just won't look like it fits. Not only is this disconcerting for your audience but the platform won't view your content favourably when curating a feed to show to the audience.

It's a simple idea - improve the presentation of your communication channels and you will start to see better performance. This isn't just because it's more appealing to your audience, but it's also more appealing to the "damn algorithm".

So next time you're creating your content or briefing your designer, think about what different aspect ratios you can use to suit different formats.

What is the “algorithm” and why should you care?

Unpopular opinion: You shouldn’t.

If you’ve been trying to dabble in social media for a while, you’ve probably heard a lot of talk about some thing called the “algorithm”.

Now, here at G’day, we aren’t huge fans of the word “algorithm”. It’s not because of what it is or what it does, but because we just don’t think you should care about it. It’s a complicated thing to explain and makes social media seem even harder than it needs to be. Unless you’re a digital marketer, don’t bother.

In the interest of the education, the algorithm is just a set of rules and equations used in the back end of social media which decides how to rank content in the feed of your existing and potential audience, right down to their individual preferences. It takes into account what a post is about, who is watching it, what they like, blah blah blah. Basically, it’s why your evening scroll is a carefully curated collection of cute dogs, 4x4s or whatever it is you get around.

Too often, business owners get hung up on the idea that they need to create 6 photo posts and 100 reels per week, use 30 hashtags and sell their soul. But you don’t have to!

Forget about the algorithm - it’s focused on your audience, not you. Instead, create content that means something to your audience. Make it relevant! Then don’t just sit there, engage with them and build a relationship around that common interest. You can do this yourself or if you’re short on time, you can get us to help! Whatever you do, just do it.

That’s right, no complicated equation. No tricky balance.

Interrupting your morning feed to talk about tone of voice ✨ Sounds fancy but it’s really just how you talk to your customer.

Remember the old saying, “it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it”? Well, that’s true both when Mum said it and for how you present your brand on social media - or on any platform for that matter!

Keep your content consistently cool, calm and collected with these helpful tips:

1. Write like you would talk, which means drop the unnecessary jargon! You don’t just drop huge words in conversation, unless the reader is of equal knowledge and understanding on the subject.

2. Avoid being dramatic. Avoid clickbait-y headlines and just tell the people what they want to know. This tip also applies when talking to your audience in comments and forums.

3. Be consistent! Find what fits you and what comes naturally, and just keep going. Make sure your content builds an image in the audience’s mind.

However it isn’t just some fad that will pass over time. There are actually a great deal of benefits! Here’s a couple:

For example, 55% of consumers learn about brands and do their research on social media. That’s quite a lot! Imagine if over HALF of your customers used social media to discover you, that’s a lot of people reading about your business!

To back it up, small businesses are generating 27% more revenue per year just by effectively using social media and websites. The proof really is in the pudding (or the source notes at the bottom).
