This year has not exactly been easy but it has given me so much in terms of growth - growth in mindset, growth in maturity and growth in relationships/friendships.
I am so very grateful for everything I have learned and been blessed with this year and these are some of the moments in 2022 that are most special to me.
I have indeed built a home here, a place that I thought would only be a temporary stop. And after 14 years, I am finally happy and at peace with that. Thank you, 2022 ❤
Time to read these beauties 😍❤
I bought the Ponniyin Selvan books 2 years ago from Tamilwithlove but unfortunately Covid hit soon after. Hence, I didn't make it back to Singapore to get the books... until earlier this year.
Even then, the books have been in their shrink wrap till recently. Finally, as the year winds up, I find that I have time to start reading them. The aim is to finish the 5 books before PS2 🙈🤣 Wish me luck! Plus, reading Tamil books (which are not kids' books) after a looong time 🤯🤪
Have you read Ponniyin Selvan? How did you find the books?

மழலை மொழி is the sweetest, isn't it? 😍🥰❤ This is Dhirren from Malaysia, he is almost 23 months old 🇲🇾😍❤
His lovely Amma, Sharla @sharlamahni bought our books from @atticusandi in Malaysia. Thank you Sharla for sharing this video and also for your kind words (which nearly made me cry, gosh why am I so emotional these days?)
It's makes all the difference to know that 'somewhere at some corner of the world a mother like you appreciates my books' - thank you ❤❤❤ And I hope Dhirren's love for Tamil continues to grow 😘

We conclude our 5th year celebrations with this video. Produced specially for our anniversary, this video shows exactly what Vaaranam Books means to me and what our brand is about. It is not about me. It is not about me trying to create some legacy or build a Tamil publishing empire (trust me, there are easier ways to make money).
I started this initiative to simply create good quality Tamil books for my children and other Tamil children. I want our kids to be excited about reading Tamil books. I want them to reach for the Tamil books in their bookshelves. Hence, our brand is about our children, the books and our beautiful language. And I think this video has captured those values beautifully 🥰
I have to thank Jana from Film Drop , Shaminie from Little Brown Book Event Management and Thilly @media lab for taking my storyboard and creating this special piece of work for me. Thank you, guys ❤❤❤ I actually cried when Jana sent me the final version - it reminded me how far I have come with this special orange Vaaranam of mine.
I also want to thank the immensely talented Saumya Sritharan, a Sydney based veena artiste, for recording this rendition of Chinnanjiru Kiliye (a song by my fav Tamil poet) just for us. It is exactly how I had imagined the music for this video to be. Thank you❤
At this point, I also have to thank my husband Jens and my children, Johann and Meera. For being my biggest cheerleaders throughout this journey.
My family in Singapore, especially my Amma, for helping me with the book distribution in Singapore and Malaysia.
All my lovely stockists around the globe Toka Box Ulagan cards Atticus & I Tamilwithlove @annam_mozhi SoTamil Tamil Storytime Chittukuruvi Bookhouse - சிட்டுக்குருவி புத்தக இல்லம் @golden language - thank you for your support and for making our books available to Tamil kids locally. Just a little snippet from our new video - made specially to commemorate our 5th birthday 🥰 What do you guys think?
Can't wait to share the full video with you all 🤩

This post over the weekend by @chittukuruvibooks
made me cry actually. It was definitely one of the sweetest moments in the lifetime of Vaaranam Books. Thank you, Nemica, for your lovely words! I am very touched 💕
All our titles are now available in Canada 🇨🇦 via @chittukuruvibooks 🥳
Posted @withrepost • @chittukuruvibooks We are so happy to reveal our latest shipment 🎉
It is such an honour to be able to include @vaaranambooks in our collection. Vaaranam Books has become a household name across the Thamizh diaspora. Vaaranam’s founder, Vanitha, has been a trailblazer in the Thamizh children’s book industry and honestly, was one of my inspirations in starting this venture. I remember falling in love with Vaaranam’s uyir/mei ezhuthukal bookset a few years ago and ordering a set for a little one in my life. The books were beautifully illustrated and so adored by the parents and the child, but I unfortunately was unable to purchase more from the collection. While the book prices were more than reasonable, I could not handle the shipping cost from Australia and Canada. I remember wondering why there were not any quality and affordable Thamizh children’s books available locally in Canada that were as beautifully crafted as Vaaranam’s, despite our large Thamizh population.
We are so glad to be able to fill in that gap in the market through Chittukuruvi Bookhouse 🥰
We are so honoured to include each book from the Vaaranam collection 💕 What I love about Vaaranam books is the obvious care that Vanitha puts into crafting each and every book. The stories are so unique and well-suited for modern Thamizh children and the images are so vibrant and child-friendly. It only takes one conversation with Vanitha, to see her genuine passion and love for her work.
Thank you so much Vanitha for trailblazing a path for other young, aspiring Thamizh authors, publishers, and those hoping to transform the way Thamizh language and culture is passed down
On this day of Deepavali, I wanted to share a painting from one of my favourite Singaporean artists @yipyewchong ❤
This painting beautifully captures Little India in Singapore on Deepavali eve, in the 50s. Little India was recently labelled as the 19th coolest neighbourhood in the world by TimeOut magazine.
For Singaporeans of Tamil/Indian ethnicity, this place is so much more. It is Tekka (as we fondly call it) that we run to for every festival -Pongal, Deepavali, Tamil New Year- to get our essentials. It's the place we go to, to get our garlands and clothes for weddings and funerals alike. It is the place that is part of the processions for Thaipusam/Firewalking.
It is also the place I went to as a child with my grandmother and the place I bring my children to when we visit Singapore. You always bump into a friend or a relative here. It is a place of IDENTITY and where our community gathers for all things good and bad. It is a special place ❤
Happy Deepavali, to all celebrating and those at home especially 🎆 Hope I can be there next year and do the mandatory visit to Tekka 🥰
Posted @withrepost • @yipyewchong Deepavali is coming! Last year, I painted this artwork “Deepavali Eve at Serangoon Road” on a physical canvas. This year, I animated it using the ‘Mental Canvas’ app. Now, you can step right into the painting😅.
I overlaid the video with a classic Tamil song “Unnaikandu Naan Ada” from a 1950s Tamil movie. Spot the movie’s actor and actress in the painting!
We’ve lived in a pandemic world for almost two years. It has taken a toil on many people. It is especially hard on families who live apart in foreign lands. During this festive season, let’s pay tribute to our foreign workers community who can’t celebrate with their families nor at Serangoon Road. My friend, Ramasamy Madhavan, a civil engineer from India, produced and acted in a short film “Painful Path” based on his own true story. Do watch this touching film
A little detour from a regular book post/reel...
Have been having the best time at IPAC Australia 2022 in Melbourne with this lovely bunch from @shivamschoolofdance ❤
Thank you especially to Ms. Sai Priya for convincing me to join in 🤗 I am so immensely grateful for this experience and it has been such an inspiring learning journey.
A little sad that it's coming to an end soon but my kids are awaiting 😂

We had so much fun last weekend, filming with these lovely kiddos 🤩❤
And they were all so well behaved 🤗 I realised after the shoot that these kids have Tamil heritage from different parts of the world. Sri Lanka, India, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa.
And all of them connected here in Australia and came together for Vaaranam. How sweet is that 😍
P.S. Thank you to my friends for letting me borrow their kids for a few hours and also for helping out that day. I couldn't have done it without you 🤗❤ Shaminie Chandra Janani Hariharan Preeya Elan Abirami Christie Janamahan Thevarajah

Introducing our first family from our En Kudumbam book - Vignesh, Andrea and gorgeous little Meenakshi from @dads.of.meenakshi
I will be honest - these guys ARE the inspiration behind this book ❣ Around October last year, I received an order for a few of my books from someone named Vignesh in Sydney. And soon after, he was following me on Instagram. I still remember this very clearly, I was sitting on the couch and was curious about this new account @dads.of.meenakshi following me. I went through their profile and looked at all their beautiful photos, read some of their posts about their parenting journey... similar experiences to what I have gone through with my children... sleepless nights when the little one was sick, figuring out which fruit puree works best when starting solids, trying to
pass on your culture and language to your child. And I actually felt rather emotional at that point! One photo that really stuck with me was the one of Vignesh in traditional attire, sitting with Meenakshi on his lap next to a golu, celebrating Navarathri.
That's when I turned around to my husband and said "I am going to do a book on families - and I am going to include this beautiful family in it!" And one year on, here we have it!
Thank you Vignesh, Andrea and Meenakshi for inspiring me to write this book and for agreeing to be part of it 💖💖💖 When I look at your family, all I see is two parents trying to create a loving and caring environment for their daughter and giving her the best childhood possible. Just like every strong, good family out there ❣🥰
I can't wait to pass you a copy of this book and hear your thoughts on it 😍 Lots of love - from my family to yours 💖
P.S. Special thanks to Mithula @theinkedge for recreating this family's photos into lovely illustrations.

When hubby wanted to take a video of the "unveiling" of our new book but soon realised that the layers of packaging made this a rather long and boring video 🤣🤣
So excited to receive the samples of our new book! Illustrated by @theinkedge
Glad how it's all turned out and can't wait to share the cover details with you 😍
What's with the song, you wonder? Our new title is all about family ❤❤❤

We have missed it by a day... because life happens 🤣
But have you noticed how obsessed we are with elephants? At least 6 out of our 8 titles have elephants somewhere in them 🐘❤
As for the remaining 2? Our beautiful orange Vaaranam (elephant in Tamil) is right there on the back cover. Have you noticed the details on our beautiful logo - designed by @sri_bassani_illustrator 😍
It is unique and like none other 🤭🥰
Why did we choose the elephant for our name and logo? Because I personally love them. And they have such significance in our culture. They also symbolise wisdom ❤
Happy World Elephant Day!

Happy birthday, சிங்கப்பூர் 🇸🇬
A little "fun fact" about our Paati Veedu book... When I worked with Navya @navyaraju.illustration on this book , I had signed off on the artwork. But then I had an idea to include a family photo that was taken - when I was 4 years old - with my grandparents, uncles, aunties and cousin.
I asked her if there was any way she could include this photo in the artwork. It is a photo that means a lot to me and we never managed to recreate this moment again, with all of the family.
Navya said she will try and we decided to replace the existing photo frame in spread 2 with the family photo ❤
When she emailed through the draft, I kinda burst into tears 🙈.
It was a very special thing - that she helped me to capture that moment in time, in this book ❤ Thank you, Navya! This means so much to me and every time I look through this book, I am so glad we included that photo. And you did such a great job 😘
And yes, that's the 4 year old me sitting on my Thaatha's lap 🤣 (kampung days were pretty awesome, I've to say) 🥰

Some of our entries for the Read Anywhere Challenge by German International School Sydney 😅
Who doesn't pack a good book or two when you are on holidays? In case you're wondering if the kids did read these books or are just posing with them... I can assure you, they did read them. In fact, they 'ran out of books to read' within 4 days of the holiday, we had to buy a couple of new books at a local shop here 😒😂 Thank goodness for the street library down the road ❤
