Does your foodservice business have a loyalty program?

Customer loyalty programs are a great way to boost customer retention and build a sense of community around your business. But how do you start one?

Firstly, you’ll need to work out what perks or rewards you will provide to your customers within the program. Is it discount codes or freebies?

Once you’ve worked out what you’re rewarding customers with, you need to work out the ‘how’. How will you reward customers? My advice here is to invest in technology that tracks customer purchases and allocates reward points accordingly. Automate, automate, automate!

Finally, don’t forget to promote your loyalty program via social media and via your website to build momentum with your customers.

If you have tips to share regarding your business loyalty program, please drop them into the comments below.

Composting is a great way for foodservice businesses to reduce their waste and limit environmental impact. It is also an easy way to create nutrient-rich soil for new crops.

So, where do you start? Let me tell you.

⭐ Choose a composting method that works best for you and your business (i.e. worm composting, aerated static pile composting, and in-vessel composting).

⭐ Train your staff on how to sort food waste, including what can and cannot be composted.

⭐ Set up a collection system for your compostable waste (i.e. compost bins or bags) and label them clearly.

Calling all composters! What are your foodservice composting tips? Tell us in the comments below.

As a business owner, audits can feel stressful and inconvenient at times. It can seem like a lot of paperwork for very little reward. Trust me, I’ve been there.

The reality is, audits are really important to ensure you are compliant with industry standards. They keep your staff safe at work and keep your customers safe when they visit your venue.

Some quick-fire ways you can prepare for audit time are:

Maintain thorough records – document your food safety procedures, employee training, supplier certifications, and financial transactions.

Undertake internal audits – review your operations regularly to address any possible problems and find solutions before an official audit.

Facilitate ongoing staff training – arrange regular training for your staff around food safety protocols and handling procedures.

These three simple tips will help to make your next audit the easiest one yet! I promise.

When it comes to the festive season, it can be easy to get sucked into the big jobs, before you tackle the seemingly smaller tasks like planning and admin.

Possibly the most important tip when preparing for silly season is to plan ahead and stay on top of your admin. Keep detailed records of all upcoming events and bookings, review staff leave to ensure you’re across availability, and run a stocktake of the food products you have available.

This level of organisation and planning ensures you can support end-of-year functions with the appropriate staffing and food allocations, without being caught off guard.

What are your tips for nailing the festive season?

Another important tip for surviving the silly season is to check your stock levels.

Does your foodservice business have enough stock on hand to cater to your customers? Can you order more if you run out or do your suppliers close during this period?

If the answer is ‘no’ to either of these questions, you should put a contingency plan in place to ensure you don’t run out of important stock during the festive season.

Can you place a bulk order or return unused product? Discuss this with your suppliers to find a solution that works best for you.

Tell me some of your top tips to prepare for the silly season.

When it comes to running a foodservice business during the silly season, it’s important to make sure you’re prepared.

One of the key things to keep in mind during this period is staffing. Do you need to hire casual staff to support demand?

Here are some of the ways I would recommend preparing for silly season.

⭐ Plan ahead - review staffing requirements from this time last year and anticipate the busy period. This will ensure you have enough hands on deck when you need them.

⭐ Diversify skillsets – train your staff across several roles. This flexibility will allow you to cover gaps where needed with staff that are familiar with your business and values.

⭐ Temporary support – consider hiring seasonal staff to support the increased workload during this time.

The silly season can be a fun and profitable time you’re your business if you have the right staffing strategy in place. Good luck and bring on silly season!

Leadership comes in many forms, especially when it comes to the foodservice industry. No one way is better than the other, but there are a few styles that are more common.

I’m sure you’ll recognise some familiar characteristics in the list below.

⭐ Transformational leadership describes someone who inspires and motivates their team. They foster innovation and encourage personal growth.

⭐ Autocratic leadership is common in many restaurant kitchens and describes a leader who makes decisions independently and expects strict adherence to their direction.

⭐ Servant leadership describes someone who leads by serving their team. They prioritise the needs of their team and lead with empathy and collaboration.

Which leadership style do you think is better suited to the foodservice industry?

Imposter Syndrome is common in our industry. It’s that nagging feeling that you’re not good enough, that you don’t belong, that you don’t deserve that promotion or a seat at the table. We’ve all felt it.

Some ways that I try to overcome imposter syndrome include:

⭐ Owning my accomplishments and taking the time to reflect on my achievements

⭐ Visualising success for myself before it happens

⭐ Making lists of the evidence that I am good enough or qualified enough

⭐ Saying positive affirmations to myself in the mirror

Research shows the way you speak to yourself can actually change the way you see yourself. So, why not try some of these exercises at home the next time you’re feeling imposter syndrome creep in?

Today is World Food Day – a day to promote worldwide awareness of hunger and encourage action for the future of food, people, and the planet.

This year, the focus of World Food Day is water. Water is essential to life on Earth and covers about 71 per cent of the globe.

Over the past decade, water availability and quality has deteriorated due to poor use and management, pollution, and climate change. We risk stretching this resource to a point of no return. So, how are you taking action?

By making small and achievable changes in your foodservice business, you can help to create a better, more sustainable food future for all.

What are some of the sustainable practices you employ within your foodservice business?

Building professional relationships in the workplace can feel challenging at times, especially if you’re someone who is introverted or new to your job.

If you find yourself struggling within your business or workplace, try these three simple steps to help foster relationships.

Start conversations. It sounds simple, but asking a question about someone’s weekend plans or their opinion on something can lead to meaningful connections.

Opt-in to team activities. Team-building activities are a great way to break the ice with colleagues outside of typical work tasks.

Listen. Sometimes the best way to connect with people is to be an attentive listener. Show genuine interest in your colleagues’ lives and stories; they will do the same in return.

Once you build workplace bonds, you’ll have colleagues to bounce ideas off, and people to lean on in times of need.

Don’t forget, building relationships takes time. So, don’t put too much pressure on yourself!

When it comes to growing your foodservice business successfully, it’s important to find new clients to work and collaborate with.

Securing new clients can be an art in itself and typically involves tender or bid writing. This refers to the creation of a proposal document that outlines why your business or product is the perfect solution to a problem your potential client has.

I’ve found these three tips usually keep me on the right track when it comes to tender writing.

⭐ Know your client. Spend time researching your potential client’s needs, values, and objectives. Customise your bid to highlight how your product or business solution can help them achieve their goals.

⭐ Clear and concise language. Avoid jargon and use clear, concise language to communicate your points. Your proposal is more likely to resonate with a new client if you take a straightforward approach.

⭐ Show your unique value. How do you compare with your competition? Highlight your expertise, past successes and innovative products or solutions. Don’t be backward in coming forward to show why you are the best option.

Mastering the art of tender and bid writing can open doors to exciting new opportunities for your foodservice business. If you need a guiding hand, we're always here to help. Reach out to us today and lets get you writing tenders like a pro.

01/10/2023

When it comes to launching a new product, it can be easy to get swept up in the excitement and momentum of the project. You want to put it into the world so your customers can get excited too – it’s completely normal!

My advice to all business owners launching a new product is to take a breath, and remember these three key things:

⭐ Don’t rush. Take time to refine your product. Gather feedback and make any necessary improvements before launch – quality over speed wins the race.

⭐ Invest in marketing. Having a fantastic product alone won’t guarantee success. Put time and money into a solid marketing strategy to help reach your target audience and build their anticipation.

⭐ Listen to your customers. Once your product is out in the world, don’t tune out feedback from your customers. Listen, address their opinions, and adapt accordingly.

If you need support with your upcoming product launch, get in touch with FoodLogic today. We’d love to connect and discuss how we could help launch your product with a bang!
