THERE GOES THAT SONG AGAIN w/ Brian Crabbe | Wednesdays 10:00am to 12:00pm with and encore on Fridays 2:00pm to 4:00pm

This week Brian is featuring two of the most famous music figures in their respective very different fields in the mid 20th century. In the first hour he marks the 90th anniversary this Wednesday of Elvis Presley, as we hear some of Elvis’s earliest recordings for the Sun record company.

And in his Special this week, Brian is featuring the music of Oscar Hammerstein the Second, one of the best-known composers of Broadway musicals of the 1940s and 50s, including “Showboat”, “Oklahoma”, “Carouse”, “The King and I”, “South Pacific”, “The Sound of Music” and many others.

And throughout the program you’ll also hear a rare archival interview with Mr Hammerstein that Bob Rogers recorded with him in 1956, now almost 70 years ago.

The SL crew are kicking off 2025 with the Top 50 countdown of the TOP 50 Blues Albums of 2024 with Australia's Jeff Cripp & Mississippi Shakedown featuring in the top 50! Colin, who helps curate the 2RRR version of Smokestack Lightnin', has also slipped into the show some additional songs from Daniel Champagne's '23 recording. Also, a new release from a duo that are Nathan Beretta & Dan Sullivan song; interestingly the duo are currently in Memphis as they won the Sydney Blues Society Memphis Challenge last year to have the right to compete in the International Blues Challenge that is about to start competition amongst 150-200 solo/duoists and bands from all around the world.

2RRR would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year! It has been a monumental 12 months here at Henley Cottage; most notably, our station celebrated 40 years of broadcasting. Thank you to our listeners, members, and sponsors—without your ongoing support, we would not exist. We also want to acknowledge our incredible broadcasters and volunteers who contribute their time and talent both on and off the air. This year came to a close with an absolute cracker of a Christmas party, and here are some happy snaps that reflect the spirit of the Ryde Regional Radio Cooperative. Here's to 2025!
