Legacy Story Mini documentary
Family Films by Peacock Visuals
I'm very excited to announce a brand-new service that perfectly aligns with what we do at Peacock Visuals and why we do it.
It all began in the 1940s...
My Poppa Peacock was an avid photographer and amateur filmmaker who captured beautiful images of my Dad and his brother growing up from the 1940s through to the 1960s on 8mm film. (Being able to watch my Dad, who is now almost 80 as a toddler in the mid-1940s in full colour is such a gift.) My Dad then continued the tradition in the 80s and 90s with Super 8 film and VHS home movies. I then continued (quite obsessively!) when my kids arrived with mini DV and digital capture from the 2000s to today.
Peacock Visuals officially began ten years ago when a producer saw some of these home movies on my Vimeo page and asked me to shoot an IKEA commercial. It's been a wild ride since then, and we ended up finding our niche not in the commercial world, but in working alongside community-based groups and artists.
As I have been revisiting the purpose of what we do and why we do it, it has become clear that this is the area I want to focus on again: capturing family stories.
One major regret I have is not having the foresight to sit down with my Grandparents and capture their story in their own words on film. A month or so ago I was telling a good friend about this, and he agreed this would be an amazing thing to have. A few weeks later, we sat down with his 88-year-old Mum and captured some of her story, reflections, and wisdom. You can watch that video below:
It was a joy not only to meet Judy and hear her story, but also to see the very tangible joy this process has brought not only to the family but also to me. Legacy is so important, and the wisdom gained over a lifetime is significant. To have this accessible to future generations in such a way is priceless.
We are genuinely excited about this new direction, and if you are based anywhere in Australia, we would be happy to have a chat

Having fun experimenting with new techniques while on break in the beautiful south West (shot was taken behind Sugarloaf Rock).
World Refugee Day
Three years ago we were approached to share a letter (see film below).
We just got an update that the author of the letter is still being detained & is in severe pain from a debilitating condition that is not being treated (In a detention centre just outside of Perth).
A sober reminder (today on World Refugee Day) that behind all the opinions/hype/politics are real people & real suffering.
"This not about sharing a burden. It is about sharing a global responsibility, based not only the broad idea of our common humanity but also on the very specific obligations of international law. The root problems are war and hatred, not people who flee; refugees are among the first victims of terrorism."

Yagan Square Digital Tower -Silo Footage
Was great to be at the opening of Yagan Square and see our work from the FORM silo trail screened on the new digital tower (Thanks for Screenwest for coordinating the screening with Yagan Square). The whole precinct is really an amazing space and well worth checking out this long weekend.
Here's a small clip of the screen in action - much more footage of the opening day coming soon!
Target Archery | They Slept in a Field
Was fun cutting together this music video for the song 'They slept in a Field' from one of my favourite records of the past year 'The Clock of the Long Now' by local legends Target Archery.
This footage was captured on our various trip's to Cambodia from the past several years with our good friends at ithinkasia.
Moon - 1/2/18
Managed to capture a few shots of the super blue blood moon lunar eclipse a few nights back. The transformation of colour and light was amazing to watch & was great fun capturing some of this very rare event.
