New look kits for Perth Glory

Perth Glory have confirmed Macedonia Park is their temporary home for 10 of the 13 home games this season.

Games against Central Coast Mariners & Brisbane Roar FC originally fixtured for October and November will be rescheduled.

The first home game will now take place on Saturday 10 December at 7.30pm vs Western United FC .

Significant tempory upgrades to the home of Stirling Macedonia FC are expected including upgrades to seating, lighting & renovations to the pitch.

25 years and still the best website for information on the game in WA.

It was on this day, twenty-five years ago when footballwa.net was born.

Originally known as the "The Western Australian Soccer Site", it was first uploaded on Saturday 20th September in 1997. On this same day, Floreat Athena won the Premier League championship in the last round of the season after defeating Stirling Macedonia 3-0, while Southside United (now Gosnells City) would later claim the Division One title. Floreat Athena would also go on to win the State Cup, while Shamrock Rovers would win the Amateur Premier Division title.

Founded by Jacob Aufdemkampe, the website has continually evolved over the years to become established as the prime source of news, information and historical data on grassroots football in WA.

Picking up on the lack of publicity afforded to the local game, Aufdemkampe set-up the website with the expressed aim of raising the profile of football in WA. Through word of mouth alone the local community embraced the website to the extent it is now the most comprehensive single source of online information on the game available.

In early 2000 the website 'staff' was doubled with the addition of Brett Klucznik whose priority has been the compilation of the weekly news updates and the provision of photographs and soon after the name of the site changed to soccerwa.com. Then in 2003, Peter Simcox came on board as the website broadened it's coverage of our game in the state. In 2005, in line with the new governing body and associations across Australia, we changed our name to footballwa.net, which is what it is currently known. Websites of today have changed since we first went online, but we don't pretend to be fancy. We keep our website as simple as possible and easy to read articles without having to click on separate links, and to find results and tables with ease.

There have been many changes in local football in the past twenty-five years since we first started. Back in 1997 the state had several associations running different aspects of the game, it wasn't until the formation of Football West in 2005 when the code was "united" under one administration body. We have seen our top flight competition change over the years, not only in name but also in the number of teams involved in it. We have seen seven different clubs crowned champions of Western Australia during that time, with Perth SC winning on ten occasions over the last quarter of a century. Our very own Perth Glory have been champions of Australia twice, have made six Grand Finals (hosted four of them) and finished top of the league four times.

Congratulations to Floreat Athena who survived a late scare as Armadale Soccer Club Inc. scored a late equaliser. Floreat scored deep in injury time to secure the Football West NPL WA title.

Meanwhile Perth RedStar FC defeated Cockburn City Soccer Club 3-0 to finish second as Stirling Macedonia FC lost to Sorrento Football Club 2-1. Sorrento climb above Bayswater City Soccer Club to finish 4th.

At the other end of the table Gwelup Croatia SC are relegated to Division 1 next season following their 4-0 loss to Perth Glory

MARQUEE SIGNING ANNOUNCEMENT 🐬🐬

Mandurah City Football Club are delighted to announce that former Scotland and Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths will be joining the club.

The experienced 31 year old striker is a proven goal scorer in the Scottish Premier League and on an International level.

Born in Edinburgh, Griffiths’ senior career commenced at the age of 16 for Livingston FC. He then went on to play for Dundee, Wolverhampton Wanderers & Hibernian before signing for Celtic where he made over 200 appearances scoring over 115 goals. Throughout Leigh’s career so far, multiple awards have been won which include PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League Player of the Year & Scottish Football Writers Player of the Year.

Leigh represented Scotland at an under-19 and under-21 level and was part of the squad that reached the 2011 UEFA Under-21 Championship play-offs, narrowly losing out to Iceland. With his undoubtable talent Leigh went on to make 22 appearances for his country, scoring 4 goals including the 2 well known free kicks against England in 2017.

Mandurah Head Coach John Baird is thrilled to have completed the services of the Scotsman for the remainder of the year. Leigh is undoubtedly one of the biggest signings in not only Mandurah’s history, but one of the biggest in Australian NPL & State League football history.

These words were echoed by Mandurah City President Nigel Mann. “It sums up where the club is currently at and the hard work we have put in over the years” he said.

Leigh will play the last 2 home games of the season in the famous Black & White. Welcome to Mandurah Leigh!

Perth Glory announce Brandon O'Neill has signed a 3 year deal to return to the club.

The 27-year-old Perth local spent the first three years of his career with Glory before completing a move to Sydney FC where he subsequently made over 100 A-League appearances and helped the Sky Blues secure an array of silverware in the form of two Championships, two Premierships and one FFA Cup.
