Ageism makes older adults with HIV more vulnerable to Stigma
Dear Members of the Gathered Faithful,
As a service to the community the Sisters are providing some educational support so that people can better understand why HIV stigma and the rates of discrimination still so high in Western Australia.
Given that 40 years into the AIDS epidemic young HIV negative gay men in Perth have social hook up profiles containing language that is ignorant, overtly ageist, racist and discriminatory towards HIV+ Positive People, is that not a sign of a very real failure and that the AIDS Industry is failing to meet their Key Performance Indicators? When we’re asked what’s next, then is it not time to ask when is Western Australia going to stop treating HIV+ Gay Men as second class citizens and demand that HIV negative Gay men stop treating positive people like sh*t?
Why is it that a bunch of ageing gay men wearing nuns habits seem to know more about how to fix the AIDS Crisis in Western Australia, with practical and cheap solutions, than the “in charge” taxpayer funded professionals & the elitist toxic “gatekeeper” HIV Leadership Group? Why is no one concerned about the language of HIV Stigma, Ageism and Racism is being so "proudly" displayed on hook up sites? As the most basic measure of the WA HIV Strategy, how does this make anyone feel welcome?

Confronted to the dual stigma of their HIV status and their age, these patients may feel the negative effects of discrimination more acutely”.

Have they really even managed to do anything to help with the climate orhas their main achievement being to provide cocktail parties for privileged snowflakes?
