Today, we celebrate not only your incredible 80 years of life but also the immense legacy you have built in Aboriginal education, the arts, and the preservation of Noongar language and culture. Your dedication to empowering others, passing on knowledge, and advocating for our people’s stories and language is a gift to us all.

You have been a guiding light, a nurturer of community, and a fierce advocate for education and cultural pride. Through your work, you’ve inspired countless generations and reminded us all of the strength and beauty of Noongar culture. You have taught us to listen deeply, learn openly, and walk together with purpose towards a brighter future.

Your role as 'Nan Roma' to so many of us speaks to the love, wisdom, and support you so generously give. On this special day, we honour you with gratitude, respect, and all the love in our hearts.

We are so fortunate and deeply grateful to have you as our Elder-in-Residence, guiding our university community at Edith Cowan University (ECU) with your profound knowledge and cultural guidance.

Did you know Western Australia's endangered Ngoorlark / Carnaby's cockatoo can live up to 35 years in the wild? That makes them one of the world’s longest-living bird species, ranking in the top 2% for longevity! 🌟

Once common in the 1950s, their population has plummeted over the last 70 years. Habitat destruction in WA's wheatbelt and jarrah forests for development and mining has pushed these incredible birds to the brink.

Ngoorlark depend on trees with large nesting hollows that take centuries to form, making the protection of their forest homes vital for their survival.

Without urgent action, we risk losing these iconic birds forever. 💔
